It's weird.. when you expand it to last 2 seasons. Here is the company he keeps. Lots of names on this list that I'd want. Ducks fans want a 1st and prospect for Gibson. Oiler fans want Vej. I feel like playing 89 games in front of the Hawks can do a lot to your stats. They are rebuilding and keep trading away key players for their rebuild (which I think is going very well as they have a 1C, 1G and 1D to build around now going forward).

Career .906 average, Over 450GP. Only 33 which is not old for a goalie. On pace to play over 100 games in last 2 seasons.

Hawks have no use for Pickard as they have too many goalies. Would a Arviddson or Henrique get it done? I'd be more confident with a Stu/Mrazek combo than a Stu/Pickard one. Trade Pickard for a pick after. That negates the cap. Still have Kane coming back. Can use his LTIR for a Dman trade. Give Savoie some more ice time and keep him up to offset losing Henrique or Arviddson.
If he were like 28 or 29 years-old and not 33, I think you give him the benefit of the doubt for a bad year. Like, I can give Connor Ingram a pass this year. He was awesome last year. Hell, Vejmelka gets a pass for his 23-24 season, he's been awesome this year. Good goalies sometimes have shit years. Mrazek has been a good, underrated starter for sure up until this year.

But the age thing has to give you pause. There's a decent chance he just has aged out of being effective. Not that a goalie can't be good at 33 or 34. But with how he has done this year, you certainly don't want to bet on it. Arvid Soderblom was a fringe NHL goalie and he's been spades better than Mrazek with a similar workload behind the same shitty team this year. That is also scary.

Mrazek...Vladar...these are poor choices for Edmonton at this point. They need to go all-in on a Gibson or Binnington IMO.

I've always wanted Vladar/Stu too but that ain't enough for a playoff run for me becasue Vladar has never been the guy. He had his chance this year but Wolf was better and took the spot.

Mrazek is a starter. I don't think 33 is too old (his contract expires next year). I would take Stu/Mrazek over Stu/Mrazek all day and everyday.

I'm also quite high on Rodrigue and am fine going forward with Stu/Rodrigue in the future.

I do think Mrazek's stats are a direct result of playing 89 games in front of the Hawk's. My biggest fear with him was his injury concerns as he was always injured. He's been very durable and averaging 50 starts a season. So not too worried about that anymore.

I get it's an unpopular take. I get I have a bias. I get I hate the Oiler's G and D situation for the 4th straight year heading into the TDL. Maybe I'm unhinged.lol

Not much. Oilers fans wanted him last year. Probably could have gotten a 2nd+ a prospect. Now, a 3rd or 4th at best.

Edit. He's signed next season for 4.25m and Chicago has no retention spots. I'm changing my answer to nobody is touching that at the deadline. Maybe in the off season, more options and Chicago will have retention spots open.

I'm kind of surprised that he didn't go in Jones deal because as of now Florida has nothing beyond Bob, if he goes down who is the current backup?

Florida had no room for his cap hit. Zero chance that could have happened.

Well let’s be honest…Vejmelka is the guy who would satisfy your desire for a true starting goalie in his prime who is Czech and backstopping the Oilers. ;)

Problem is UHC would want a hockey trade not picks or prospects.

To be honest, I want Dostal and Gudas on my Oilers in a dream scenario. I think that would make us cup contenders. It will never happen.

But this is hockey and goalies are strange. At the worlds, we had all 3. Vej was in the pressbox and Mrazek was the number 2 behind Dostal on the bench. Now, 6 months later, he's not even close to Vej? Utah is a much stronger crew than Chicago. To me, that is the difference.

FWIW - if UHC trades Vej, they made a mistake. They need to sign him for 4 years. Then Hrabal takes over. Go Mammoths or Yetis or whatever they call themselves in Utah.lol

TJ Brodie lol.
Don’t mean to imply that San Jose would even be interested going forward next season but with Georgiev and vanicek hitting free agency. Mrazek fills in that veteran type for askarov.
I'm open to bringing Brodie in if the deal makes sense. How about Mrazek and Brodie for Goodrow and Grundstrom? Finding a goalie won't be much of a problem and Brodie is something we have plenty of as a washed vet. The Sharks do need to spend a bit to reach the floor but it needs to make sense for them.

Don’t think it’s terrible. Extra year on goodrow probably kills it but admittedly beggars can’t be choosers

It feels like Mrazek bounces between being good and being mediocre and nursing an injury every other season. This has been one of those mediocre seasons for him.

Maybe he'd have some value if he was retained, but Hawks don't have any more retention spots this year. Best case is if a team wanted to trade a negative asset with a few million dollar cap hit (and signed for another season or two) along with a 2nd or 3rd for him.

But nobody is taking him at $4.25m per for this season and next.

I think the Sharks would if there's a way for them to move Goodrow in the process.

This is why I think he's a good trade target for the Oilers. I'm clearly alone though.lol And probably just wrong.

There aren't many goalies with a worse GSAx than Skinner and Pickard, but Mrazek is one of them. Why go for someone with worse numbers when so many goalies with better numbers are available? You should be ignoring previous seasons for goalies and only consider recent play, because you never know which goalies still "got it" and which goalies are going to be in the AHL just MONTHS after being considered for Team Canada, such as Tristan Jarry...Stuart Skinner's Summer training partner and fellow protege of Dustin Schwartz.

Given the association Jarry and Skinner share with Schwartz, and how both Jarry and Skinner's play has plummeted at almost the same time, I think Stu is far more likely to wind up on waivers in the near future than show any improvement whatsoever, so now is the time to ship him out.

Better performing goalies than Mrazek and Stu that could be available: Gibson, Binnington, Soderblom (?), Alex Lyon, Cam Talbot, Anton Forsberg, James Reimer (not even kidding...Skinner is that bad), Jonathan Quick, Jusse Saros (but salary might be a dealbreaker)...hell, even Dan Vladar to be honest. And I'm definitely forgetting some players.
