If he were like 28 or 29 years-old and not 33, I think you give him the benefit of the doubt for a bad year. Like, I can give Connor Ingram a pass this year. He was awesome last year. Hell, Vejmelka gets a pass for his 23-24 season, he's been awesome this year. Good goalies sometimes have shit years. Mrazek has been a good, underrated starter for sure up until this year.View attachment 985410
It's weird.. when you expand it to last 2 seasons. Here is the company he keeps. Lots of names on this list that I'd want. Ducks fans want a 1st and prospect for Gibson. Oiler fans want Vej. I feel like playing 89 games in front of the Hawks can do a lot to your stats. They are rebuilding and keep trading away key players for their rebuild (which I think is going very well as they have a 1C, 1G and 1D to build around now going forward).
Career .906 average, Over 450GP. Only 33 which is not old for a goalie. On pace to play over 100 games in last 2 seasons.
Hawks have no use for Pickard as they have too many goalies. Would a Arviddson or Henrique get it done? I'd be more confident with a Stu/Mrazek combo than a Stu/Pickard one. Trade Pickard for a pick after. That negates the cap. Still have Kane coming back. Can use his LTIR for a Dman trade. Give Savoie some more ice time and keep him up to offset losing Henrique or Arviddson.
But the age thing has to give you pause. There's a decent chance he just has aged out of being effective. Not that a goalie can't be good at 33 or 34. But with how he has done this year, you certainly don't want to bet on it. Arvid Soderblom was a fringe NHL goalie and he's been spades better than Mrazek with a similar workload behind the same shitty team this year. That is also scary.
Mrazek...Vladar...these are poor choices for Edmonton at this point. They need to go all-in on a Gibson or Binnington IMO.
