I wish him the best but the only way he stays is on a team friendly deal.
The guys a good solider who I really want to see resigned, but I'll hold no ill will if he wants to chase the dollars on another team. But the Leafs are done overpaying guys.

Yep. His body takes a beating every game because of how he plays. He turns 29 next week, too, so signing him to big dollars long-term is a massive risk.
I'd give it 2 to 3 years before you regret resigning him, his play style isn't conducive to aging gracefully
