So the gm is all about paying a guy for what hes about to do, right?

Anyone see 11 getting better?

Hyman is a good grinder and a solid top 6 power forward but his skill level really is quite low. He isnt able to make plays at the level of our top guys. Replacing him with someone who can keep up and still grind pretty well would be a good move IMO. Dvorak comes to mind.

Although I am open to keeping him but I think he should play with JT and not Matthews.

Tavares has a NMC, he didnt come home just to be shipped out

As much as I'll be upset losing Hyman, he always will be middle 6 PWF. Preferably on the 3rd line if you have a Championship caliber roster. Giving him 5 million is just not a good idea imo. It sucks to lose a heart and soul guy while we have so few, but that contract will do more bad then good.

With so little cap space that 5 million is better spent on 2 players at 2.5mil. You trade Mikheyev and Engvall and get another 2.5 mil, trade Kerfoor for another 2.5-3 mil player, then essentially you fill the holes in the forwards with non minimum wage players

The team is already significantly handicapped by the top 6 contracts. There is no way this team can take on another big contract, especially for a guy who probably starts declining as early as next season. It’s painful but ya gotta move on. He was really good but the team failed every year and it simply is a missed opportunity that you can’t get back with Zach.

I would be really interested to see what the relative advanced stats look like for Hyman. From what the eye test shows it seems like any line he is on plays better so I wonder what the with Hyman/without Hyman advanced stats look like for the top 2 lines.

A franchise that pays a secondary piece who is close to his 30s a 2-2.5x raise for the same thing while already being tight to the cap is setting itself up for failure. On the other hand, losing a glue guy like Hyman could have a pretty big negative short term impact on the team since there are so few guys who do what he does... so it really comes down to treading water or maybe taking a calculated step back so we can use the cap flexibility to take two steps forwards.

I think Hyman and Rielly will be sacrifices and I hope this is a blunt message to the top guys that there is a flatcap so they are going to have to pick it up or they are next!

I think Marner already knows he's next if he lays an egg again next playoffs.

Hypothetically if it is $5M, can you find two $2.5M players to replace what he brings you next year and get better? I'm not sure.

Given his injuries and the way he plays, I think we all know the contract could look bad in a few years.

I've been saying that about Marner.

Marner makes 11M and score 90 pts (82 game)

I am sure we can find 3 players for 11M that can score 90 pts together and we round out the roster a lot better and be more competitive.

Marner is absolutely USELESS in the playoffs. Marner can go elsewhere and win art roos and I wouldnt give a flying F.

I want playoff success and hopefully a cup
