Truly looks like it’s going to come down to Rielly or Hyman. Who do you believe is more replaceable by someone making less salary?
i admit i was on the trade Reilly bandwagon (for a very long time) but, he was very good in the playoffs, and was the only d-man able to carry the puck out and join the rush properly.
we can replace Hyman a dozen different ways, but, have nobody close to the caliber of Reilly on the back end

It's Hyman's only chance to cash in a fat contract. I don't blame him for aiming at 6 years 5 Millions per season. Unfortunutely I don't think this is a player that's going to age well so the Leafs should pass.

If i'm the oilers I offer hyman a nice contact to ride shotgun with mcdavid. I like hyman but unfortunately because of the two marshmallows we don't have any cap space.

He will get 5.5M from Oilers for 7 years .. same exact deal Josh got at same age from Habs last summer and Josh had much weaker offensive numbers than Zach

As an Oilers fan I'd love Hyman on the team but I'm sure I'm gonna hate that contract.

from what he said post series, i think he's walking anyways, and i for one wont be disappointed.

I think we need to look at Habs defense and copy what they did. Our core is too soft and the only way to try something different to fix it is by having big nasty defense for a change.

Leafs may get him for 4.5-4.8M over 8 years with some front loading .. as he will likely take some less AAV for some more $$$ and 1 more year term which Leafs can do

We need a true #1 dman who can QB our PP and does not come with a muffin shot. Unless we move Muzzin or Brodie, there will be no room for Rielly. Would love to get Boeser for him if we could get Benning to bite. Of course at that point there will also be no room for Hyman.

Wait til you see Edmundson fight vs Jets in game 2/3 .. not sure who he will go with but it won't be Shieffle likely Lowry .. he is a tough hombre man

I like our mobility, but we need a large/strong top 4 d-man that can skate and has anger management issues.

I dont think Muzzin can fill that role any more... I'd pref him mentoring you younger dman or in his shutdown role.

I'd actually look to sell high on Muzzin, and reclaim the $$
Gudbranson 6'5" or Adam Larsson 6'3" could be ideal #4 d-men who should each come in cheaper than Muzzin and fill a similar role
Jamie Oleksiak 6'7" would be my top choice, but, not sure what $$ he'd be looking at

Reilly - Brodie
Sandin - Gub/Lars
Derm - Holl

or
Reilly - Brodie
Ole - Holl
Sandin - Derm/Lili

I have the same opinion on Hyman I did 4 years ago when Babcock was forcing him into a top role. I have absolutely nothing against the guy, nothing at all. He appears to be a completely respectful, standup, honest and very hard working type of person. He has personally benefited from being beside two of the leagues top 5-10 point men. He has very stiff hands, average at best puck handling and average skating ability. Having Matthews being very one dimensional scorer and Marners very one dimensional playmaker puts Hyman in a terrible spot when they arent firing and he's not good enough to be relied upon. We have seen this now for a single goal in each of the last 5 series.

His style, skill, age and contract situation make him extremely expendable and I truly believe deep down he knows this so he will try and maximize a contract anywhere while he can. If they decide to bring him back once again and weigh down a top line, while paying him more than 3.25mill a season I would be very upset. I'm also not in the either Hyman or Reilly argument, I say lose both but move Reilly while we get a good return.

I think he’s going to be diminishing returns as time goes on and the playoffs was a good reminder not to get too invested in him. Up to the organization to find Hyman type characters. Not an ideal top line player. That said. Losing his work ethic and impact could see the Leafs take a tumble in the standings.

Hyman's injuries have slowed him down already. He's not the player he was even 3 years ago. I'm less concerned about AAV than the term of any deal. No more than 3 years with this guy.

I agree with this which is why they can't pay him over 4ish and not for long (maybe 4 years) but they have to play him on the 3rd line if he returns. The team looked so much more dangerous with an effective 3rd line.

3 years at $5 million (Andersen’s money) would be like the absolutely upper term and dollar amount.

Sounds like he’ll start to decline right as all our core starts to walk away as UFAs. May as well go for it, right?

The way we pay our core players? Good luck getting more money elsewhere

You mean a player that actually cares Unlike what we have now and he should drain them for every penny he can go just like are pre-Madonna‘s did

Hopefully they learned a lesson and thank him for his efforts as he leaves then

That still seems high it's really tough cause we played him so much on the top line everyone thinks that's where he should be and that shouldn't happen and the cost should be related to that that's why my 4ish is the max. I mean he's gonna be 29 next year so it's a really tough decision . I think it will come down solely to him and what he wants and for a player like him right now in his career it's probably gonna be for the cash and I don't blame him if that's what he did.

The $4 million range is more comfortable for sure. Up to Toronto to find these kind of players if Hyman walks.

Anything more than 4 AAV and its a no for me. He will get more somewhere else.

I like hyman but he is replaceable.
