I’m trying to keep up….if you’re better than hot garbage are you hotter garbage or cooler garbage?

They are great wingers. Maybe we can get Parenteau or Jason Blake back out of retirement instead

Longest of my life. Worst part is with this epic blunder of a postseason i don't even care about the regular season anymore.

I mean we won our division and got bounced in the first round, for me to truly care I'd need to see them get out of the first.

Rockets, harts, nothing matters if you can't win in the post season.

Sure it does. Tell me what did Mackinnon & the Aves do his first 5yrs in the league? How bout Stamkos? They all got there eventually and it started with regular season sucess & awards like the rocket.

Had the most goals but the underlying metrics didnt look good beyond a 25% shooting percentage.

Speaking of looking good, did you watch the playoffs? I ask because to me, Nylander looked very good while Marner did not.

Marner is the more talented player. Only overpaid.

More talented, perhaps. But does that really matter? There's one poster here who keeps going on and on about how talented some of our players are and how we should never trade them because they're so talented. But if we keep losing to teams that are supposedly much less talented, maybe it's not the most important thing.

The stats are correct. 9 for Marner and 5 for Nylander. My question is what qualifies as a hit? Marner threw 1 hit tops

Fair question, I've been wondering this for a long time. Not sure I've seen Marner throw 9 hits in his entire career and I've watched almost every game he's ever played. Is it like flag football where instead of tackling someone, you just need to touch them?

Hits don't win hockey games, goals do. Just ask Joel Quenneville.

Put it this way maybe. You get 2 above average top 6 players for Marner and only 1 and a bottom 6er for Nylander. Same reasoning goes for Tavares and Matthews.
Instead they scratch and claw the bargain bins every year at this time for projects or rejects. Not trying to be harsh, it’s just true. We could have a top 6 of $6,700,000 players divided equally. Thats decent players anywhere throughout you forwards or defense really.
The concept is proven hyper disruptive and failed to win a single playoff round. It’s a mess and this is their last year together if expectations are not met.
There is more to this than the wage worth of Nylander and Marner. I would personally keep Nylander if a decision was needed. Not sure the fair gap.

The cap will move up 2mm after next year by just hitting past revenue targets. After that, there could be a rapid rise in the cap due to post covid revenue bounce and the better tv contract. Guaranteed he will not give up UFA years for pess than a premium.

This post aged poorly

Barely better, if anything.

Nylander is seriously underrated and his contract is a steal. Not to mention he steps his game up in the playoffs… unlike someone.

Huge upgrade to have those guys with their cap hits over marner

Um, what?

Mackinnon has never been below PPG in the playoffs, his first season he already put up 10 points in 7 games at the age of 18.

Stamkos production has always gone down in the playoffs vs regular season, he's been at PPG twice in the playoffs (5 games total over both seasons combined). As far as the regular season goes, he's been a beast ever since he started his second season.

Terrible examples.

welcome to another "marner hate" thread .......
do people come here just to complain about marner over and over again ?

I guess that depends on how long he remains on the team, and if he ever plans on showing up to play with some heart.

My guess...not anytime soon.

Does that mean Nylander had half as many touches?

Yay, so Nylander didn’t face Montreal’s shit down, who shut down Winnipeg and Vegas best players as well.

Don’t be fooled by that, and always look for proper context, like the context above.

Nylander was still ducking hits, even to the point of taking a delay of game himself rather than absorb a hit. You throw him onto Matthews line, he doesn’t automatically expose the Danault line, that 3 NHL teams couldn’t expose. Lol. It wasn’t going to be frigging Nylander of all people who was gonna do what Mark Stone couldn’t do.

It’s like accepting Matthews gutless performance because he was marginally more involved than Marner.

With Nylander taking Hymans place they could have been better. Nylander instead of Marner could even been better for that stretch. But probably not for the long run. Nylander was hot. Always use hot players as much as possible. Hate it when coaches are on ignore and dont adjust.
