How many 60 goal seasons will Auston Matthews put up in his career?

If i would have never visited these boards, i´d probably be cheering for him to get 70+ and a Cup.

As is, however, would like to see him left at 59 (career high), with Leon hitting 60.

Also want Toronto-Tampa/Boston to go to 7 games and for the leafs to be up by a few goals entering the 3rd...

It's still nowhere close to Pavel Bure's 58 and 59 game seasons even if he does get the nice round 60.

He scored 50 goals in 50 games, and that was the most impressive goal scoring effort since Ovechkin's 65 goal season. His 58 are already more impressive than Stamkos's 60 based on the 50 goals in 50 games alone)

Actively wishing and spreading bad vibes about Matthews not to hitting 60 is just silly, regardless of how much you don't like the Leafs... Matthews scoring 60 doesn't get them a cup, so why put so much energy and bad vibes towards him scoring 60? Worry about the Leafs winning the cup instead lol, and let NHL fans in general Matthew scored 50 in 50 and maybe first to score 60 in quite a long time.

The 50 in 50 is already way more impressive than hitting 60 or not... so not liking him hitting 60 or not is just whatever. 60 goals in terms of the NHL record books really ain't shit, and neither is Ovechkin's 65 really.

I'm guessing you're not a Canadian if it took Hfboards you to realize how insufferable coverage of anything regarding the Leafs at all can be... Our entire sports media never shuts up about them, and they act like the entire country are Leafs fans and want to hear everything that's going on with the Leads, when we are DEFINITELY not, and definitely don't care about everything that's going on with that team.

Matthews scoring 50 in 50 tho, or possibly scoring 60... That's something that I actually do care about, and lots of hockey fans who don't like the Leafs can at least appreciate for what it is... and separate the player from the team. To get back on the topic of the thread... I think he's at least got a solid shot at 2 or 3 60 goal seasons, even if he doesn't crack 60, but that's only if he can stay healthy, which seems to be wishful thinking at this point.

Pavel Bure had two 60 goal seasons, plus one 58 and 59 goal seasons each... He scored his two 60 goal seasons over the two of the highest scoring seasons in NHL history over 84 game schedules, then scored his 58 and 59 goal seasons in the dead puck era. Bure is one of the greatest goal scorers of all time in goals per game, and he still just barely hit 60 in two of the highest scoring goal seasons in history... scoring 60 is f***ing hard. Matthews could have five 60 goal seasons, but still get nowhere close to Gretzky/Ovechkin level of career totals/ all time greatness. I think with Matthew's injury proneness... he's unlikely to score 60 goals again after this season, and this is probably his best shot to do it... if he can stay healthy, he's got a good shot, but considering he's only played a full 82 games once (his rookie season) and 70 games played is still the most he's ever played in a single season since he's rookie... the odds are stacked against him ever scoring 60 again after this season.

Lol, i enjoyed to read your post even if you were a bit off. I have nothing at all against the team itself, actually i like Matthews as a player. Also used to view leafs as a nice, classic old franchise with great jerseys. If Matthews scores a lot i won´t be upset, however if he is stuck on 59 while Leon gets 60 i´d love they can´t call him a 60 goal scorer. On the other hand, wouldn´t mind him getting 82 in 82. Main thing is still the play-offs, where the leafs wither.

Hard to say- this season is quite the outlier for a lot of players. There seems to be more 100 pt scorers and 50 goal scorers than in years past. If that trend continues then it's possible he hits it a few more times. If the scoring decreases, then he'll level out, too.

Most rational Leafs fans don't care. If he scores 60 but Leafs flame out in 1st or 2nd round, it wouldn't mean all that much to me.
I'm sure most fans don't care a whole lot. Just would be funny to me from a premature thread standpoint. Also didn't realize he was hurt.

How many really matter considering he has zero Stanley Cups? For as much as the Leafs hype themselves the following are major events from the year they last won a cup...

1. The 60 Days War.
2.The Beatles release Sgt. Peppers.
3. Kurt Cobain was born.

The NHL had 12 teams lol.

Even if he went insane last 5 games and finished with 70 but they flame out early I'll be super pissed.

On the other hand if he doesn't score another goal this regular season and doesn't win the Rocket, but they make a good playoff run, I'll be happy.

This is very relevant, original and new information. I hadn't thought about it before. Thanks for your insight!

1 or 2. It’s a ridiculously difficult achievement. It took a 50 in 50 run to get him a chance at it this year and he still might not get it. He’s definitely the best goal scorer of his era though.

Forget about their last cup win, look at the last time they won a playoff series. 2004. YouTube and the iPhone did not exist back then lol.

I think having a 60 goals scorer is important for a proud franchise, looking at their 50 goals scorers list, it is a pretty short one of 3 players besides Matthews: Vaive, Leeman and Andreychuk.
Never heard of first two and do not associate Andreychuk with Leafs.
They need all they can get I would think, superstar with actual goal counts.

They haven't don't even have game tape of them winning a series in HD.... I can't talk that much the Hurricanes cup win was in 2005/2006 and we have lost two conference championship series since then.

That makes it worse not better, so they haven't won a title since the entire league was two teams short of a modern division....

An era were 1/6 teams would be Champions...

1/32 now lol.
I dont see whats so bad about it.
The Stanley Cup is not an easy trophy to win and how many teams still have never won a cup since entering the league. I mean is that really much better than not winning since 67?
Know what is actually pretty crazy?
out of the Original 6 teams

Rangers have won 4 times (1928, 1933, 1940 and 1994)

Boston has won 6 times (1929, 1939, 1941, 1970, 1972, and 2011).

Chicago has won 6 times (1934, 1938, 1961, 2010, 2013 and 2015)

Detroit has won 11 times (1936, 1937, 1943, 1950, 1952, 1954, 1955, 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2008)

Toronto has won 13 times (1918, 1922, 1932, 1942, 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1951, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1967)

Montreal has won 24 times (1916, 1924, 1930, 1931, 1944, 1946, 1953, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1986, 1993)

So even though there were only 6 teams and you would think it would be easier to win but some teams had major issues. was even hard to win back in the original 6 let alone now with 32 teams

Pretty stupid to give any team a hard time over not winning in a long time imo

as for the series wins not winning since 04 is pretty embarrassing and still not even the worst in the league with Florida not winning since 96

Hope he gets back in time to get the 2 he needs. But if he doesn't, it's still an amazing season and except for the extreme haters, we all know he would have had 60 this year.

Yeah but be nice to get him included in that list of players that scored 60.
other teams fans would never let us forget he isnt a 60 goal scorer
I mean it doesnt matter anyways just annoying, was nice to see Matthews kinda shut people up but then again, they just found another reason to down play things like 51 goals in 50 games
