How many 60 goal seasons will Auston Matthews put up in his career?

*Jinx thread and he gets injured for the remainder of the season before he hits 60*

I’ll play it safe and say another 2 times. Could definitely see more though. Toronto staying a top team for a while would definitely help

How are Bossy and 1980s scoring levels relevant to how many 60 goals seasons Matthews will have?
Bossy had 5 seasons of 60 in a row. He was best sniper of his time.
Matthews just got his first . He usvthe best sniper right now.
Just a comparison.

I'm relaxed but you can't really compare 60 goal seasons in the 80s to now is my point. Matthews right now has a higher goals per game than Bossy ever had adjusted for era.

Entirely depends on the league scoring average... it seems goal scoring is up among the top skilled players, and if it continues to go up a bit more, I don't see why he might not achieve 2 or 3 more.

Had league scoring averages stayed the same or went up a little more after the post 2004 lockout bump, Ovechkin likely would have had at least three 60 goal seasons... league scoring trended down after his 65 goal season tho, and it made his 50 goal seasons that much more meaningful.

If Matthew's wants any chance at being considered a better goal scorer than Ovi, he had better plan on having multiple more 60 goal seasons, or plan to beat Ovi and Gretzky's totals himself.

For the sake of the league, I hope scoring continues to go up, and Matthew's gets multiple more 60+ goal seasons. Hope someone can break 70 again, and Matthew's seems to be the best bet to do that at the moment.
You got it. Scoring league-wide is up, but elite players are scoring at an even higher rate of increase than the league-wide average (likely due to elite players being able to capitalize more on smaller equipment and smaller offensive minder D-systems).

For example, here is Ovechkin and #2 in the league in goals for some of the 2010's:

2014: Ovi = 51 | Perry = 43
2015: Ovi = 53 | Stamkos = 43
2016: Ovi = 50 | Kane = 46

Ovechkin has a slump year and you see:

2017: Crosby = 44 | Kucherov = 40

So for 4 straight years- the best non-Ovechkin scorer was totaling 44 goals. We're going to have about 7 players surpass 44 goals this year. Huge increase.

Matthews had almost as many goals in 50 games as the rest of the top scorers have in basically a full season. None of Ovechkin’s other goal scoring seasons besides his 65 goal one are as good as this current one for Matthews especially when you factor in their massive discrepancy in powerplay time compared to the rest of the top scorers. These next few seasons will be big for Matthews as well as I don’t think anyone is betting on him dropping his pace considerably any time soon.

Matthews had 37 goals in 50 games. Or are you hand picking the 50 games?

I hope he gets it this season, but it will likely be his only one.

This is only the 2nd season he's going to play more than 70 games in his 6 seasons, and 60 goals is hard enough when you play a full 82.

And that's not a slight on Matthews. The guy may be the best forward in the NHL right now.

Not knowing the extent of his injury yet, I'd say as many as MacKinnon's 100-point seasons: 0

But he is going to have one any day now.

Dont you dare think about even slightly doubting that in writing. You know what will happen

Cheers
0 goals in his last 3 games and held out of Sundays game. I don't think anything I say can have any affect on what happens in last 6 games.

Oh really? Name the 5 consecutive seasons  The best sniper of all time... lead the league in goals twice in his career, okay.

If Matthews wins the rocket this year, he'll have as many as Bossy.

I'm willing to wager that - during the 1960-61 season - there were fans of the Leafs, and the Big "M" in particular, who asked: "How many 50-goal seasons will Frank Mahovlich put up in his career?"
