Whoever started/stated this, is a fail.

HE CANNOT SIGN BEFORE JULY 1st.
He can’t sign no but basically the understanding was he would negotiate and be ready to sign July 1 now it looks less likely that he will sign at all.
So if they aren’t comfortable having him pull a Tavares or Johnny hockey then now might be the time to listen to offers?
Personally I think they should shop every player every year but I know some of you fan bois would rather tread water and never win.

About the best we can hope for is that the new GM doesn't have to give away too much, or make too many bad moves, over the next two years.

After the Tavares albatross is gone, we will have a chance to build a good team.

"you fan bois" Seriously?

And if they haven't started negotiations at this point that's a bigger problem.

Again, as I have said before ... if you negotiate and "agree" to a contract, it is going to be all based on faith. Come July 1st. Matthews will be able to make a decision whether to sign or agree to a trade without concern for anything agreed to before.

To be honest, watching Bobrovsky do the same thing to Carolina that he did to us is making me feel a bit better about the current state of our team.

Maybe our roster is not as far off as many of us thought a week ago.

Bring in a competent GM and coach and we'll see what happens.

In my opinion, the despicable behaviour of this loser in a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey jersey is certainly not representative of how any law-abiding and extremely passionate Toronto Maple Leafs fan would and should conduct themselves in society.

Toronto police have arrested and charged a 25-year-old man after he allegedly assaulted someone following a Maple Leafs playoff game earlier in the month.

Investigators responded to an assault call in the Queen Street East and Kenilworth Avenue area in The Beaches just after midnight on Friday, May 5.

Officers said the alleged victim was with the suspect and a group of other people when an argument ensued.

The male suspect assaulted the victim, causing significant injury to their eye, police allege.

On Wednesday, police arrested 25-year-old Jake Rogers of Toronto. He’s been charged with assault causing bodily harm.

He’s expected to appear in court virtually on July 6, 2023.

I feel very content to keep beating this horse's corpse because I think their leadership structure is trash from top to bottom. We have enough talent to win it all, but they are continually lesser than the sum of their parts. I am thrilled that we have so much talent and utterly exasperated that they have no idea how to win with said talent. Somehow we have a team with the rarest ingredient, talent, and are completely missing the most important ingredient, drive.

Next year will be the the 10th anniversary of drafting William Nylander. This whole ride started with him back in 2014.

In that time we have won the first round once and everyone drafted is on their 3rd UFA contract. That’s the state.

Is there dysfunction within the Toronto Maple Leafs? | OverDrive

They are joined by TSN Hockey Analyst Mike Johnson and they discuss if there is some dysfunction within the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. They wrap up the hour discussing Danny Jansen’s injury and what it means for the Blue Jays going forward.

We have no first in 2025....

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Blackhawks traded defenseman Jake McCabe and center Sam Lafferty to the Maple Leafs on Monday in their biggest trade yet this February.

In exchange, the Hawks received a 2025 first-round draft pick and a 2026 second-round pick as well as low-tier forward prospects Joey Anderson and Pavel Gogolev.

“In our effort to acquire future assets and continue the rebuild, draft picks and prospects are the currency that is valuable to us at this time,” general manager Kyle Davidson said. “We were able to get some really high-valued assets in this trade. Obviously, it’s not easy moving on from two good players . . . but you have to give something to get something, and we’re happy with the return.”

The fine print contains some intricate details. The Hawks sent conditional fifth-round picks in 2024 and 2025 to Toronto, the latter of which could become a third-round pick if McCabe falls short of some games-played thresholds next season.

The Hawks also retained 50% of McCabe’s $4 million salary-cap hit through 2025, using up one of their three salary-retention slots. The Leafs’ 2025 first-round pick is top-10-protected and would slide to 2026 in that case.

I'm probably in the minority here but I think it's pretty solid.

You have a good top 6.

You have a pretty good defense

You have what looks to be solid goaltending in Samsonov and Woll, although there is a new GM coming in so I'm not sure Samsonov is established as the #1 and he's hurt anyway and we don't know how bad it is.

But to me you have the spine of a very good team.

XXXMatthews Marner

XXX Tavares Nylander

Jarnkrok XXX Knies

XXX XXX Lafferty

Riell Brodie

Lilly McCabe

XXX XXX

Samsonov
Woll

to me you need 2 top 6wingers, you could put Knies and Jarnkrok in those spots and fill that out but then you'd need an entire 3rd line, this way you have the majority of your top 9 set, and also I don't know if Knies should be thrown right intop the top 6.

Your top 4 D is set, bring back Luke Schenn and that fills a spot on the bottom pair.

Goaltending MIGHT be set, but again there is a new GM coming in and it's not like Samsonov was good in the playoffs, he wasn't, and he also got injured so goaltending is where I have the most questions because Dubas isn't GM anymore

What's that smell?

If incompetence had an odor, you would be able to smell ML$E headquarters in Paris.

The one in France.

Is ML$E seriously going to enter the new season with Shanahan in lame duck status next? Do they not have any confidence in their POHO anymore? Why would they allow him to make such monumental decisions regarding the management of this team if they weren't sure he should remain in charge?

Someone needs to start answering some god damn questions.

Because everything is so higgledy piggledy it gives no one any confidence this team knows what they are doing. It's an embarassment to everyone. Especially the fans.

We're the ones paying for it all.

Every year this team fails to make meaningful progress. The results can't be defended any longer. They speak for themselves

I'm sorry, but sports is a results oriented business.

The average tenure of an NHL executive is approximately five years. Management is hired to get fired. No difference here for Brendan Shanahan.

The only thing remarkable about what he's done here is how badly he failed.

If Shanahan wants to continue managing an NHL franchise it can be somewhere else. He hasn't given any reason to vindicate himself here. Nine years later and the Shanaplan no longer passes the sniff test.

It stinks.

Even if they wanted to shop every player every, which is completely ridiculous NOBODY does that, they literally can't.

John Tavares has a NMC he's going to tell them to eat shit and there is NOTHING they can do about it.

Shanny has 2 years left he's not a lame duck.

You're right.

All the more reason to get rid of him now. Why let this play out any longer? I don't see Shanahan all of a sudden making this right after so many years of futility.

Time to show him the door.

Pound pavement Shanahan.

Faith is hope without a guarantee. I have 0 hope/faith he'll sign here. His performance this year was concerning as was his persistent wrist injury. I'm ok with trading him & the other 2 Amigos....they are regular season all stars and playoff flops....we need change....
