Grub's Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, and & Fantasy GM | Go Your Own Way

But my point was, he clearly carried his own pairing in Detroit.

Before he got traded to Vancouver, he was the #2 RHD on a team with two good dmen (both RHD).

Detroit didn’t want to commit to him, as they already have a solid #1 RD, so they traded him.

I have yet to see a compelling argument that he wasn’t successfully carrying the second pair in Detroit for the 60 games he played in the season that he was traded to us.

I think the reason they play him with Hughes is because he doesn’t just throw the pick to his partner’s side, the way Myers does. This saves Hughes a lot of wear and tear.

I haven't even addressed you, I believe. Nor had at any point I believe addressed Wisp. I dunno, I smoked a lot of pot in my time and I had ADHD to begin with so...I'm not writing Hronek off, I've only been saying he ain't first 3 months Hronek, and he ain't this year Hronek. He's somewhere in between IN MY OPINION. I can't believe I have to clarify that any further than I already had, but c'est la vie.

And I don't have any problem debating anyone and discussing topics. Never have. But I always felt that if a poster gives his own personal take, it's implied that it is from their POV. The facts are the hockey games. That single preceding sentence was never addressed because I felt it was so crystal clear it was part of the social contract of posting on message boards.

If anyone would like to dispute what *I* see, go ahead and educate me. I welcome it with open arms, and I have conviction that posters who know me well and personally, and have posted here for seasons and seasons, games and games, would have seen that. However,

I find it disrespectful to not at least put in the effort to engage when the effort is dispensed. Fart out all thought-terminating one-liners and '?' you want. Your effort will receive an equal and opposite effort. I'm not here to play your English teacher and explain what a metaphor is. GIGO - garbage in, garbage out.

Y’all are getting real closer to moderation intervention. Might want to reign it in.

Reverend is saying Hronek hasn't carried his own pairing yet - which is unequivocally true. He did not say that he's "bad away from Hughes", those are separate statements. I also want to see Hronek on his own pairing.
The only fact you have is that he doesn’t play much without Hughes. Whether he could do so successfully is opinion based on your scouting, which with all due respect I don’t value. So far, the main argument has been that he fibre’s his way through 25 highest-leverage minutes.

No one has commented whether he could or couldn’t do it successfully, just that it hasn’t happened yet. Maybe properly read what others are saying before spouting off.

That’s utterly disingenuous:
I don't expect Hronek would implode if played away from Hughes. But I doubt he shows as a #2 while away from him.
He can't, but we have no one else reliable to pair him with. If there was a way we can stabilize a 2nd pair with Hronek, you can pretty much put anyone with Hughes as long as they are able to make a crisp reverse or can find an outlet under pressure. I was hoping Desharnais would grow to be this guy. I still like him, but not quite there yet.
Because he hasn't already. He's not an anchor guy, he's a transitional guy. He's like fibre. He keeps shit moving. Which is fantastic, but you look at the team we have currently and there is absolutely no one who can buoy that ability.

He has utility, just not currently.
This is a good way to put it

He would be perfectly fine on a second pair co-running it but the task becomes finding him the right fit on the other side
He's quite literally not the player you think he is, in my opinion based on what he's shown. It's 3 months of fantastic hockey, and a lot more inconsistency.

If your argument is that you guys have no position and are talking about nothing, then ok, great. Position seems pretty clear to me though, you should have some conviction.
