They can't do it with 3

They shouldn't but I have a feeling they would go that route. However, going for the cup when you have 4 players making 11+ AAV all forwards is a really really really bad idea IMO.

they should at least wait out Tavares' contract to expire to make big trades or throw draft capital for help in post season.

If I was Tre I would ask myself do I really think adding to this current group would give me post season success -> at least conference finals given the D, goal tending and Tavares' play at 11 AAV with Marner also struggling a bit.

If it was up to me I'd ride the season out as is; sell of pending UFAs at the TDL and recoup some draft capital. If we make the playoffs then thats fine youngsters can get some experience (Knies, Robertson, Liljegren, McMann, etc.)

Off season I again sign 1 year deals to flip them at the TDL while trying to improve the D and provide some NHL experience to Cowan, Minten

Then in 2025-2026 till Matthews' contract isup I would go ALL IN (hypothetical)

Knies-Matthews-Nylander
2LW-2C-Marner
Cowan-Minten-3RW
XXX-XXX-XXX

Rielly 1RHD
2LHD Liljegren
3LHD 3RHD

Goalie1 (potentially Woll or trade/UFA)
Goalie 2 (potentially Woll or trade/UFA)

IMHO we should take the 2 years to re-tool. We can't keep going for it just for the sake of going for it. We should be prudent and plan for best course of action.

In 2 years the cap should be up significantly too so that will help with Minten, Cowan on ELCs (potentially 1st round pick in 2024 too); with Lily and Knies on decent RFA deals.

We should try to make hay when the sun shines and take calculated risks not blind risks IMO

I’m so glad I didn’t stay up to see the totally delusional Marner interview. It’s bad enough reading it here.
We are a great team………ya you look like it buddy.
The only credit I will give him is he did come out come out t to speak
I have to change every time marner speaks I don’t think he has a very high IQ off ice or just spews out random shit to media that has no real thought or emotion. Nothing marner says in interviews is true to heart

The overturned Hyman goal was actually a thing of beauty. How come he never showed that kind of silky mitts in Toronto?
He didn't have them then. He could barely lift the puck during most of his time here and the beginning of his time in Edmonton. Now he's like prime JVR.
I guess when you're being fed nonstop gifts from McDavid, you spend most of your offseason on that.

He seems to be able to create his own offence, forechecks like a beast. Wish we had someone like that.

While I don't like Keefe, it's amazing that people overlook this poorly constructed team/discount the team's mental fragility.

It's the coach's fault they have 1 playoff win in 7 years? Come on. While I think it's a contributing factor to their crap play, I put more of the responsibility on the players. They are paid like stars, and don't consistently act like it. Period.

He was always a good forechecker. And when he's healthy and not dealing with the knee and lower body injuries he experienced here, he's able to blow past people and get into good areas. The problem was always that he'd just shoot along the ice once he got the chance. Now he's flipping up pucks in close like prime JVR.

I don't think it starts with Marner. It starts above him and trickles down.

If Torts was the coach, do you really think Mitch would have been saying that after the game?
You are right. The BS that is going on with this team has to stop. I mean, the players are happy and smiling in the post game talking about how awesome they are playing and how great they are. This is turning out to be a real comedy show.

They are going to miss the playoffs.

These issues are roster related and not coaching related. Can't rely on this D.
It's beyond the D, but it's a poorly constructed team. A new coach may be able to bandaid some of it, but the roster is pretty limited. It isn't physical, quick or deep. Mix in defensive issues with many forwards and a shallow D, there's no wonder they're struggling. You have some great pieces but not much more.

It’s looking that way isn’t it, who takes a job as a puppet anyways, is that where he’s at in life?

Are you saying Treliving gets no respect?

Not just looking at last year with Detroit. He was arguably their best forward the year before

He fit in well with Boston during the season. Had some issues in the playoffs but still put up numbers

We're not seeing anything close to that here.

IMO players like Bert work well when they have a defined role; same with Domi. bert had a defined role with wings and then with boston. Also, boston's culture is one for all and all for one. They go to battle each and everyone. There are no half measures there

Leafs on the other hand, it seems the ground work is that matthews, marner, nylander, tavares are the guys everyone else is just rotating; there isn't any defined role.

I mean if Bert was to play the shit disturber role he needs to know that his teammates have his back; in boston and wings that was the case. With the leafs players hardly stand up for each other. Also in terms of accountability; in general, coaches have the say regardless of the AAV the player is making. Cooper benched all of Kucherov, Point and Stamkos for the entire period because they were sucking against sabres (Link below); when has Keefe ever benched high AAV players in a manner that is consistent that every player is equally valued so the player has some stake in the game.

This is far from "ground hog day" if it were the Leafs would've won because in recent years the Leafs have been very successful against the Oilers. I guess you meant that they've played similar the last 4 games where they had leads in all games and probably should have won at least half of them. I do agree that there needs to be a shake up, nothing too serious, but something should be done.

He keeps making the same stupid mistakes, like the play at center in last minute of the 2nd period where he was very lucky he didn’t give up an odd man break.
Some here have a pocket full of hall passes for Mitchie, he can do no wrong in some posters eyes………

Oh the irony, Rodney’s not the only one getting “no respect………”

Torts wouldn’t be coach because these guys wouldn’t allow it. They’d stop playing in short order is my belief.
Shanny is Daddy Warbucks with 4 spoiled daughters. Not going to happen. It would be a player friendly coach just like Tre is a player friendly GM.
And on the flip side, no way Tort’s would want to coach this mess………

Where’s @Evilhomer? Polishing his crystal ball………
No silly, I'm still right here, quite capable of fully acknowledging that if the Leafs can't win their games in hand, and so far they haven't, they won't catch the teams ahead of them. What can you do by take another shot against Calgary on Thursday and hope that the teams in front of you lose. I'm still not concerned about the teams behind them as Detroit and Tampa are just too prone to dips to have extended winning streaks.
