IMO players like Bert work well when they have a defined role; same with Domi. bert had a defined role with wings and then with boston. Also, boston's culture is one for all and all for one. They go to battle each and everyone. There are no half measures there

Leafs on the other hand, it seems the ground work is that matthews, marner, nylander, tavares are the guys everyone else is just rotating; there isn't any defined role.

I mean if Bert was to play the shit disturber role he needs to know that his teammates have his back; in boston and wings that was the case. With the leafs players hardly stand up for each other. Also in terms of accountability; in general, coaches have the say regardless of the AAV the player is making. Cooper benched all of Kucherov, Point and Stamkos for the entire period because they were sucking against sabres (Link below); when has Keefe ever benched high AAV players in a manner that is consistent that every player is equally valued so the player has some stake in the game.
Bert was handed the role Bunting filled the past 2 years and Hyman the prior 2-4. It's a well defined role on our top line, hell even our top 6, that he just couldn't produce what was needed

It was all Jones fault wow do you watch the game players left alone in front of the net .

I don’t know what the players should have done differently on Draisaitl’s goal?

I guess our goalie isn’t allowed to face easy shots - must be our defence fault for not allowing 0 shots a game.

This team is purposeless. Even if they make the playoffs they aren't doing shit when they get there.

Their best is not good enough, we've seen it game after game. Great effort tonight. Not enough.

Serious re-tool is required. Else, you're going to get the same thing year-in-year-out.

Up to MLSE if they give a fck I guess. I do not think it's the coach.
I agree. I thought the effort level was great. The game was back and forth with a little nastiness.

Couldn't capitalize on their chances. Couldn't defend late.

No silly, I'm still right here, quite capable of fully acknowledging that if the Leafs can't win their games in hand, and so far they haven't, they won't catch the teams ahead of them. What can you do by take another shot against Calgary on Thursday and hope that the teams in front of you lose. I'm still not concerned about the teams behind them as Detroit and Tampa are just too prone to dips to have extended winning streaks.
And let me guess, your predicting a Leaf win?

First and third goals weren't good ones to give up, but Edmonton outplayed us

While I don't like Keefe, it's amazing that people overlook this poorly constructed team/discount the team's mental fragility.

It's the coach's fault they have 1 playoff win in 7 years? Come on. While I think it's a contributing factor to their crap play, I put more of the responsibility on the players. They are paid like stars, and don't consistently act like it. Period.

Nobody is saying that changing the coach is the solution, it is just the first step.

Just dip into some of your peaty goodness and realize you were fortunate enough to see the Leafs win a cup already……….
I was 4 years old, I'm not sure we had a TV at home at that point or that I'd even started speaking English yet and I'm pretty sure I didn't even know what hockey was yet. Missed it by a year or two.

Are you sure Matthews doesn’t have his checks deposited in the US……

The Leafs/MLSE use a Canadian bank; how his cheque is deposited doesn't matter.

And this isn't so much about cheque/check as it is people here being ignorant and/or lazy and using Americanisms. Don't even get me started on calling the ground the floor........................

But some of us are American.

It's not an insult. We need junkyard dogs.

Everyone does. But a junkyard dog hanging out at a prissy dog show isn't gonna fit in.
Larkin was their best forward. He did have a career year though, as everything kind of came together for him at once. He was in his prime on a line with Larkin/Raymond on a team where they got every good offensive opportunity, he got the most PP time on the team, and picked up points in a bunch of game states that he usually didn't, including more empty net points than the rest of his career combined.

But then he really struggled to score the next year in Detroit, and his production dropped back down. And then he struggled to score in Boston, but picked up some assists as Pastrnak went on a crazy heater, to make his totals look more respectable. And then he picked up a point on every goal his line scored in the playoffs, and existed on a 41% PP, and it kind of hid how much he got thoroughly outplayed.

He's whiffing on chances more than he normally would, but he's never really been that good at anything other than standing in front of the net. And his most common linemate this season is already really good at that.

The fact that you think he's a "junkyard dog" and a "worker bee" really just displays how much some people misunderstood what they were getting.

I think I’ve zeroed in on the source of the curse folks! ;)

Thinking about how they’re going to frustrate you next.
Zamboni driver, check.
Up 3-1 to Montreal, check.
Trade a bad goalie for a worse goalie and then put him on LTIR, check.
Pay the same things more every few years, check.
Run it back x infinity, check.

The only reason Dubas is gone is because he ran out of ideas.
Shanny: Tell me Tre, what would you do?
Tre: Klingberg and Reaves.
Shanny: Ha, ha, that will drive DarkKnight nuts. You’re hired.

Mitch is upset that the fans and media are casting doubt on the team....playing some "awesome hockey".
Guy’s a loser. I thought he didn’t care what the media thought? Clearly he’s easily triggered.

Can’t wait til we extend Marner for 8 years!

It's really weird...even Reaves completely stopped fighting and being physical after 3 games.
Not sure if it’s culture, coaching, style of play or all the above.

Reaves, Bertuzzi, Simmonds, Foligno (yuck), Matt Martin, off the top of my head, these guys were all bulls in a china shop. They come here and that style is completely neutered, it’s not a coincidence.
