Bertuzzi on Boston was completely different

Because a bulldog doesn't have fun in a safe space locker room.
He had a good game with Boston. He wast very good and the fact they didn’t sign him tells us everything

Listening to the post game interviews, this team is absolutely f***ing delusional and it starts with Marner. They think that they are playing awesome hockey and that they are a great team. There needs to be some serious changes with this roster. That is totally unacceptable.

I have a feeling that this team won't even win 35 games at the end of the season. Their remaining schedule is brutal.

Gotta keep my sense of humor. I mean the team's a joke so what else is there? Prepare for another decade of irrelevance, that's my new mantra.
Just dip into some of your peaty goodness and realize you were fortunate enough to see the Leafs win a cup already……….

Panic mode.
Sheldon's interview was no better, looking at the bright side of things to try and save his job.

Fire Keefe and bring in Berube.

 Marner is clueless. Sorry, you don't show up every night. Most nights this year, it's been a subpar effort. It was actually a good effort tonight, but beaten badly by a much better team. If you really think you've play hard, and "awesome", someone needs to reset your reality and expectations.

From what I know about this core, that was an honest assessment of their play.

Not just looking at last year with Detroit. He was arguably their best forward the year before
He fit in well with Boston during the season. Had some issues in the playoffs but still put up numbers
We're not seeing anything close to that here.
Larkin was their best forward. He did have a career year though, as everything kind of came together for him at once. He was in his prime on a line with Larkin/Raymond on a team where they got every good offensive opportunity, he got the most PP time on the team, and picked up points in a bunch of game states that he usually didn't, including more empty net points than the rest of his career combined.

But then he really struggled to score the next year in Detroit, and his production dropped back down. And then he struggled to score in Boston, but picked up some assists as Pastrnak went on a crazy heater, to make his totals look more respectable. And then he picked up a point on every goal his line scored in the playoffs, and existed on a 41% PP, and it kind of hid how much he got thoroughly outplayed.

He's whiffing on chances more than he normally would, but he's never really been that good at anything other than standing in front of the net. And his most common linemate this season is already really good at that.
No... He's a good junkyard dog.
The fact that you think he's a "junkyard dog" and a "worker bee" really just displays how much some people misunderstood what they were getting.

I don't think it starts with Marner. It starts above him and trickles down.

If Torts was the coach, do you really think Mitch would have been saying that after the game?

Been saying this for years, you can’t give half the cap or more to 4 forwards, but the Leafs continue down this path of idiocy………..
It's really worrying that fans have known this for half a decade, and yet the ones that have been in charge, don't. There are posters on this board that would've been a better GM than Dubas and Tre.

I think the only thing that tells us is that Boston didn't have the salary cap space he wanted. By all accounts, Boston very much wanted to resign him.
If he was good enough, they would gave re-signed him. They’re looking for a forward now.

Probably right but Lou also signed Marleau to that bad inflated deal, and he was a key mentor for Matthews and Marner when they were first up in the NHL.

and TBH there are some parallel’s to this group and Marleau

I agree partly. We needed a "vet" presence to show the ropes to the newbies. Babcock had pushed to sign Marleau; I assume he saw something in Marleau's work ethic that he had liked I suppose. At the time there weren't any other relevant "vets" that could have been brought in to show the ropes to the kids.

Marleau contract started to hurt when Dubas shelled out 11.6 AAV to Matthews after having signed Tavares to 11 AAV too.

If Leafs hadn't signed JT, Marleau contract would not have hurt. Marleau was moved to accomodate for Matthews and JT contracts and again to overpay Marner at 10.9 AAV. Kapanen and Johnsson were moved too

Hypothetically speaking.... Leafs could have continued to run...

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Marleau-Kadri-Marner
XXX-XXX-XXX
XXX-XXX-XXX

When Leafs signed Tavares the issue was wasn't scoring it was the same issue that we face now. besides Rielly we just didn't have any D and goalies were a hail mary (Andersen, Campbell et. all)

The Marleau parallel only becomes noticable post Lou. During Lou's tenure professionalism was still paramount. There was a complete 180 turn IMO as soon as dubas took over

If you can recall pressers during Lou's tenure versus pressers after Lou's tenure for the players there was a shift.

There may be some parallels to Marleau and and current attitude but I really don't think there is a 100% match. The current attitude somehow reminds me of the salutegate Phaneuf-Kessel era where Horacheck's "give a shit-o-meter" seems to be running very low.

It would be nice if the folks that wear letters on their jerseys and have taken lion's share of the cap would at least acknowledge that they have to be better instead of blurting out that they are playing some good hockey.

Four blown leads in a row and four losses in a row - I don't think it is wise for any player(s) to claim that they are playing good hockey as a team

Marner. "We're a great hockey team." The delusion is strong for that guy. Great teams don't give up leads and lose 4 times in a row.
Marner is so out of touch when giving interviews, it makes me want to scream every time he opens his mouth. I’ll be glad when we move on from him.
This is not the Alpha dog identity I want in the least.

Also without woll this team is garbage in net. Say what you want about jones numbers. He’s always been a garbage goalie.

Brodie needs to go. Bertuzzi has great games they all seem lost recently. Fix the lines back up. Bring players who want to play here like Perry on the cheap. Our coach is useless

It really highlights the lack of understanding of the game some display by laying everything wrong with this team at his feet.
Idiotic and childish puts it mildly.
He keeps making the same stupid mistakes, like the play at center in last minute of the 2nd period where he was very lucky he didn’t give up an odd man break.

Torts wouldn’t be coach because these guys wouldn’t allow it. They’d stop playing in short order is my belief.
Shanny is Daddy Warbucks with 4 spoiled daughters. Not going to happen. It would be a player friendly coach just like Tre is a player friendly GM.
