I still can’t believe what Marner said last night.

I would indefinitely healthy scratch him until Paul runs crying to Shanny and Treliving for a trade.

We have to remember it's what Marner does on the ice and not his tone deaf sounding comments that matters. You don't like it, I don't like it, and it would certainly be better if he was more humble sounding but he's paid to be a 200 foot energizer bunny who makes high skill plays in traffic, produce offense, kill penalties and drive wins, not to win sound bites a la Nick Foligno.

Mark Masters was asking about Holmberg's English after Matthews gave Pontus a bunch of compliments and he smiled about his language skills improving. Pretty innocuous stuff... I'm pretty sure we all cracked a smile over the past 24 hours...

Either way, I think even the Leafs social media team is trolling their own fanbase with that thumbnail. Seems like everyone inside that organization is tone deaf and living in la la land.

'also a way better backup goalie, eventhough Woll has shown great promise.........look at the end of the day Shanny and Keefe need to be fired, obvious changes that us simpltons that are not pros see that need change....if the higher ups can't see it the. We can't trade JT because who would take him at that contract (plus the NTC).

Apparently the NTC kicked in immediately on Willy's contract (NHL rules).

Firing Keefe is a positive, but it won't fix the mess. We have to wait a year for the Mitch and JT contracts to expire.

Right and it's not to say Mitch, Matty, Willie don't work their asses off, I'm sure they are in the gym every day, I'm sure they all could run circles around me, around most of us for that matter on this forum in most athletic competition's. It's the mindset that 13 regulation win's out of 42 games is an awesome team, a team that has had a history of not showing up when it matters, be it in elimination games or against teams who on paper are inferior, that is not awesome. Talented yes, awesome no.

The awesome team comment is like he's decided in his head, that what he thinks, is the bar that team has to reach, although the pinnacle is a championship, One team gets to use the term awesome every year and to get the privilege of calling yourself an awesome team you have to win your last game in the playoffs.

I'm not sure if it's immaturity or a narcissistic mindset but it is off putting that he thinks that this team is anything less than underachieving.

Right now it's the coach. Most agree this team is not a true contender, no need to make that move this season.

I my ideal world... run with what we have for this season. Some small retooling next season. Full all-in starting in 25-26 until we win it all.

This probably means:
-Marner is gone.
-Tavares is back on a 3.5 mil / yr deal. Though based on current play even that is too much.
-Probably at least 3 new D.
-New goaltending. Woll is made of glass and Jones has already given us his best.
-New supporting staff (i.e. no Kampf, Bertuzzi, Domi, add in Minten, Cowan plus new signings)

This year and next are likely complete NO Cup year write-offs given CAP situation .. although there may be a chance this season if Woll turns into what I think he will AND we can somehow trade for 2 top 4 dmen who are playoff defenders .. but it is likely highly unlikely

Bottom line NO coach can work with 1 top 4 D in pro hockey .. it does not matter if Scotty coached this team in his prime .. and he had Brodeur in his prime as his tender .. the roster construction with this NHL socialist CAP system is doomed .. you can't afford 4 forwards on any team in current NHL making half of CAP .. forwards are da least most important part of a Cup winning team although you do need 2Cs

Us Leafers are stuck with this screwed up roster mix .. to me they have signed 2 right guys in Matty and Willy long term but we need a Josi and a Vasi rather than a Mitch and a JT.. my guess is it is 2026 season before things will correct and then we will have 2 years with Matty to go for a Cup

Hey I’m just sayin, one minute we can’t get it done in the playoffs and the next we may be struggling to get there. There’s no denying we’re a far worse team overall and especially defensively in just one off season with Treliving.

You are so obsessed with the goaltending now, and attempting to prove you are right, that you completely have lost any ability to see the team in front of them. Jones played lights out for much of the game, and if it wasn’t for him, we likely get destroyed.

We gave up 19 High Danger shots against. 19...

3.75 expected goals against, 3 goals against.... 0.75 Saves above expected.

The team sucked in front of him... he did his part overall....

The team isn't good enough... wouldn't matter who was in net... so misguided.

I'm just not an ass kisser but keep making excuses for bad goaltending.
