In watching the video to find the spot when the picture was taken, I noticed how nice and clean both the ice and the boards look without all the ads that we are subjected to these days. It was nice when the focus was only on the players instead of the additional mind pollution of ads that came about later on.

One of the many aspects I complain about in modern hockey... glad someone else says it occasionally so I'm not always the grouchy old man!

Anyone ever read any explanation from the Flower about why he started his career wearing a bucket and then took it off? My suspicion is peer pressure - a young player trying to make a name for himself would certainly have been susceptible to that in the early 70s. But I would be interested in hearing that story, especially since he went back to wearing a lid later in his career. (Maybe that was just to protect the hair plugs?)

How many other players started wearing a helmet, then went several years without it, before going back to one? I can't think of any.
