Kings owner Jack Kent Cooke had wanted his new team to play in the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena (home of the NBA Lakers) but the Los Angeles Coliseum Commission, which managed the facility, had already entered an agreement with the WHL's Los Angeles Blades. This led Cooke to build the Forum. Since the Kings new facility wouldn't be ready for a couple of months into the inaugural season of 1967/68, the team started play in the Long Beach Arena.
