April 1982 - Wayne Gretzky and Dale Hawerchuk representing Team Canada at the World Ice Hockey Championships. Canada would finish the tournament (Group A) with a record of 3-2-2 and defeat Sweden 6-0 in the Bronze medal game on April 29th.

Teddy Green, Derek Sanderson and 6 con men.

I would definitely include Sanderson as one of the "con men". Philly owners make him the richest athlete in history. He repaid them by playing only 8 games and refusing to help the team with marking efforts for the new franchise. -- then got paid 1MM to get out of town.

Notice the cigarette hanging from his mouth in this photo? o_O

1970 - Derek Sanderson serving drinks behind the bar at Daisy Buchanan's in Boston. Sanderson was a partner in the business with Joe Cimino. A year earlier he was part owner of Bachelors III at the invitation of New York Jets star quarterback Joe Namath. It was Cimino that put the bug in Sanderson's ear to open his own bar instead of splitting the profits with the other partners at Bachelors III.

^^^ Where do you suppose that games being played that there'd be cage fencing rather than glass & empty seats like that DB?... Seems very odd.

Killion, I believe the game was being played in the Long Beach Arena which still had cage fencing at the time. Kings owner Jack Kent Cooke had wanted his new team to play in the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena (home of the NBA Lakers) but the Los Angeles Coliseum Commission, which managed the facility, had already entered an agreement with the WHL's Los Angeles Blades. This led Cooke to build the Forum. Since the Kings new facility wouldn't be ready for a couple of months into the inaugural season of 1967/68, the team started play in the Long Beach Arena.

Ah yes... I do recall that now. Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense. :thumbu:

That is a 67-68 PRE-SEASON game... you can tell because Minnesota has a slightly different "N" logo than what they eventually adopted. This was the initial version of the logo but it was changed by the time the regular season started. Notice the serif at the top left corner of the "N" is pointing DOWNWARD...
Plus, both teams are in their DARK jerseys...

Ya, I wonder. Before joining the Golden Blades for the start of the 1973/74 season, he probably thought he saw the last of the white skates when he played for California Golden Seals during the 1970-71 season. Little did he know......

I'd have to go searching but I'm pretty sure I made a post here once of all the players who wore white skates for two different pro teams. Along with Howell there were about 5-6 other Seals who wound up with the Golden Blades...

The pic of Gretzky celebrating a goal against Al Smith of the New England Whalers also features former Minnesota North Star Gordie Roberts, leaning on the net.

I cringe when I see this 1983 photo of rookie Yzerman and Olympian Pat Lafontaine because I think back and wonder why didn't the North Stars select one of these future HOFs as the first pick in the 1983 draft. Instead, Minny fans got Brian Lawton.

This is enough to make a grown man, who has lost his favorite hockey team, flat out heave-cry in an inconsolable manner.

Even today, I can't bear to watch NHL Network's "On The Fly" when that weasel Lawton is on.

Remember when Brian Lawton briefly wore #98 creating the obvious comparisons to Gretzky? Talk about putting unnecessary pressure on yourself!
