Stone, Couturier and Murray are among those players who would only make the Canadian E team, apparently. Trying to come up with a letter later in the alphabet than someone before you to describe the quality of players on your team only makes you appear unintelligent.

So you listed 3 guys that out of the entire roster and one of them MIGHT make the A team. That's not a relatively good avg. Nice try, maybe you should rethink that assessment.

Good God I know emotions are high but holy crap this is the hottest of silly hot takes
I wouldn't say it's better than miracle on ice, but it's definitely vol.2 of that as is right now. I'll wait for you or anyone to prove me wrong after Finns Liiga team beating 3 teams full of NHL players (one of them twice).

Yup, as I just said in another connection. [Lions need] A miracle or a horse named Miracle.

Or then not Orr but Örrr - Mörkö.

I got it finally quite right.

As many of you have said or implied, this was a truly inspiring real life rags to riches cinderella story in which team spirit (partially also teen spirit) and pure will acted the decisive game changing role of a good fairy.

A great end to a great journey, saga and tourney.

And if there are (fickle) hockey gods taking care of their changing favourites til the end they smiled. most brigthly to Lions this time around. If there is a thing like predetermined fate Finland's win was written on its golden pages long time ago, from the very beginning of this competition (or even much earlier!). And if there ever was a Team of Lions and there have been many to be sure this was and most likely will be the most relatable identifiable and unforgettable one of them all (until now or ever!). Great team, great team players, great guys.

This was one of those "miracles" asking. these notions and comparisons. And that testifies how special this team and its accomplishment was. "A miracle meant to be."

Thank you. And congrats, guys. (Over and out)

Man, on one side, I am happy I am off work tonight, cause my alcohol consumption during the game put me well over the driving limit, but on the other side, wish I was at work tonight, driving around Helsinki, so I could partake in the partying while pretending to work!

They were still pros. And those three teams were more star studded than the Finnish team that beat them, but none of them were the juggernaut that the Soviets of 1980 were.

Even if a junior team won this tournament, it would be nowhere near the upset that was the 1980 Olympic upset.

Eh, this is compared to 1980 in a lot of media in Europe, let us have our moment, we know Murica is the bestest!!11

I dont have an immediate answer. It could be so. I would say had this been the Olympics it would be right up there for sure but I question just how much these NHL players were putting their heart and soul into this tournament. I suspect it's something of an afterthought for many of them.

Still a great win for Finland, no doubt about that. And I'm obviously late to the party. Why didnt the Finns have a lot of NHL players? I was wondering why neither Rinne nor Saros was with them.

It has nothing to do with it being an American win . It couldn’t been amateurs from Finland or Australia or South Africa. The miracle was that it was amateur part time students vs one of the greatest teams in the history of the game.

As I said, even if it was a junior team that won this tournament, it still wouldn’t have been as big an upset.

With that said, it shouldn’t or isn’t meant take away anything from enjoying this victory.

Oh, believe me, no one who is currently celebrating this victory is put down by your comments. It's like pissing in the wind.

Well who cares anyway. Different times, different hockey.
But I'd dare say it's maybe the biggest upset in World Championship history. A miracle if you will :sarcasm:

It has nothing to do with that. This Finnish win us arguably the biggest surprise result in this tournament since Slovakia in 2002 and even if they compared it to the miracle on ice it would only be for not understanding the difference. That Slovak team was very similar in terms of unheralded players and in the teams they beat to win gold, but they too were full time pro athletes and not amateur part time students.

Do you think I’m not happy for Finland winning or something? Thst has nothing to do with understanding the difference between 1980 and this.

it seems "miracle" is copyrighted by americans, sorry, you aren't allowed to enjoy the victory or compare.

In reality no one gives a shit what they say - WE WON AGAINST ALL ODDS

More eerie similarities between the 2011 final and this one. Both games were tied at 1-1 after two periods. In 2011 Petteri Nokelainen scored the eventual game winner after 42.35 had passed on the game clock. In 2019, the game was tied at 1-1 after two. Marko Anttila scored the eventual game winner after 42.35 had passed on the game clock.

:scared:
