I believe 2022.

It's in Beijing so the NHL is going for sure.

Sportsnet and the CBC think they’ve struck it big when four million Canadians tune in to the Stanley Cup playoffs.

NBC was ecstatic to announce average viewership of five million for Monday’s Game 1 of the Cup final between Nashville and Pittsburgh, a 22 per cent increase over Pittsburgh-San Jose last year.

But those numbers pale in comparison to the regular audience in China: 22 million.

“We have a lot of people,” said Chinese broadcaster Wei Wu, who calls himself Marvin. “Viewership is not a problem.”

Who did the States knock off in the quarters and semis at Lake Placid, though? Not teams with the number of NHL goals this year that Sweden and Russia had between them going into this tournament.
There were no quarters in the 1980 Olympics. It was successive round robins.

And the final game wasn’t even the USA vs the Soviets.

After the miracle game, they’re was still another day of games to played which saw the Soviet Union beat Sweden 9-2 and the USA beat Finland 4-2.

But none of those were miracles. The miracle happened the day before when a team of amateur part time students beat a Soviet team which had won every tournament from 1964 to 1980 and won convincingly.

This Soviet team was was one year removed from crushing the NHL (Canada plus others) in the 1979 challenge cup and a year away from beating Canada in the 1981 Canada cup final by a score of 8-1.

No upset in sports has come close since. Anything you can think of, Greece winning Euro 2004, Leicester winning the premier ship. Nothing even close. Those teams and thus Finnish team were still professional athletes. It wasn’t random kids beating one of the most powerful teams in the history of the sport. It wasn’t even winning gold per-se that was the miracle in 1980. It was the difference on the levels of the teams in that one particular game.

I won't gloat since it's not my thing. Actually went to a bar with a screens to see the game well. As a Finn, I could say I'm pleasently surpiced. Also when I left, there where so much things happening. I do love my country, but these things are rare. Still can't rap around my head that we beat Canada twice, in the playoffs Swedes and Russia and in the end Canada. I have quite respect of those with the roster. And our non-NHL team... what can you say? Even if it's negative... see? You just don't win teams that have top 20 NHL-players in a row just for luck. I did not see this coming. If I had, maybe I have ruined it.

13 of the 20 players went on to play in the NHL.

They were skilled randoms.

But in general I agree.

The big difference is how much better the Red Army team was compared to this Canadian team.

Anyway, if the Finns want to call it their Miracle I don't really have a problem with it. It's a great story.

Went outside to see the heart of darkness, the Havis Amanda statue (the "Tori"). An hour ago already thousands of people, thousands more arriving. Cars filling the streets blaring horns, flags waving, music blasting... whenever you yelled "Mörkö!" you instantly got a crowd reply... The scene is just like the 1995 street party. God I love this. Helsinki is going to be bonkers, and it won't be only today lol

(And goddammit I've got to be working...)

Only Morrow, Ramsay, Christian and Broten were heralded as potential NHLers before miracle. Many of them got an opportunity but aside from these guys, maybe only Pavelich had a noteworthy NHL career. Noteworthy in that he played more than a season or two.

Hockey is our game ;)

The Boy is home again!!! Kiitos Leijonat, Thank you Lions. Like i said 2 weeks ago, this is most hardest working team the whole tournament. And this is the proof, we are the world champions. Miracle on the ice.

Good news, now we party hard whole week. Bad news, i have to be in work in 6 hours. But thats why i bought some red bull to wake me up.

YEAH BABY YEAH!!! We are the champions of the world.

I don't think anyone really tries more than an exhibition game in these international things. Mostly exists for current players to make appearances and bring revenue.

Haha pathetic comment. Those russians, swedes and canadians really looked like they didn't care after losing on the ice... americans I didn't even watch - they sucked anyway.
