In this context? I guess so as you wouldn't know anything about the Finnish team.

I wasnt referring to Finland at all - that game JUST happened

I was just pointing out how old and stale that american miracle on ice is to me more just because it happened so long ago now the US win over Russia from 1432 just before the battle of Agincourt

Miracle on ice ? Hardly. I will repeat my comments that I wrote after Finland beat Canada in the preliminary round:

The Finnish team that played Canada today had mobility, adequate size and skill to compete with anyone. When you add timely goaltending and a touch of puck luck, you have a 3 to 1 victory. The greater surprise to this observer, is that a quickly assembled Team Canada, with limited high end skill, actually played the Finnish side so evenly.
Perhaps today the Finnish team needed a little more than just 'timely goaltending' to prevail. But any team that can beat Sweden, the Russians and Canada is to be respected. They played with passion and honour and set an example for all of us as to how we should approach all facets of life: never give up. And for those who suggest that playing on the bigger ice surface would result in boring play, I would only suggest that the nine minute segment of the game in the second period that was played without a whistle, provided all of us with the finest example of what the game of hockey can and should be.

Congratulations Finland, you deserve the gold.
Yes. Watching these two teams, amy of the top 6-7 teams in the top division, talent is close enough not to be totally noticeable.

The actual miracle saw a team that could barely skate beat a team that looked like magicians or aliens compared to them on the same ice surface. This was the big difference. There hasn’t been such huge sporting upset since then, not only on hockey but in no sport thst I can think of.

Some people compare Greece winning Euro 2004 or Leicester winning the premier league in 2016 to the miracle on ice, but even in those cases, it was pro players upsetting better pro players. Not part time amateur students beating one of the strongest teams in the sports history.

what do you guys think, maybe if Canada sends more players to Liiga, they can win some year?

tryina be graceful & constructive

Nine of the players played in the NHL that season though.

finland actually ran thru both Russia and Canada in succession to win this

to me thats way more impressive than that one US win against Russia from so long ago its not even close
I wouldn't say "run through", but definitely out-worked both teams.

The goalie also was unbreakable. I thought we would be lucky to not get cut from the World Champs would be great. Then these guys poured their hearts out and left everything on the ice.

I don't think I've ever been as proud of my countrymen as right this moment.
