The point you made about MBW and the change in goalie coach seems well taken to me. I'm curious what he thinks about it.
I wish we could find out from somebody why the change was made and I'm just absolutely dying to know if Melanson's contract was up and Fitz just said ''We're not offering you a new deal. See ya later!'' or if we actually paid him any seasons to sit at home. I wonder if he had any time remaining on his deal? It doesn't make sense to get rid of him just because we got rid of Cory, when he was here working with a young goalie that really seemed to be emerging as a very good to potentially dominant one. Melanson had been the Devils goalie coach all but one year of Blackwood's pro career and I'm sure he'd been following him in the minors, even though he likely wasn't directly working with him, outside of training and prospect camps, at least not frequently.

And I also wonder if Scott Clemmensen is still the goalie development coach here. I never see anything him being or not being in the organization anymore. He had very little to do with the goalies in the NHL or once they made their jump to the NHL, but he had been the goalie development coach for the organization since the same summer Blackwood was drafted.

His job was really to work with the prospect goalies (which Blackwood was definitely what you'd consider a prospect probably from 2015 through 2019) and even travel around the globe to check in and work with our goalie prospects who were off the continent.

Clemmer was the guy who said the team saw Schmid as the best Euro goalie prospect in his draft class.

Edit- With respect to Melancon I wonder if Brodeur’s role in the organization had anything to do with it? If Brodeur didn’t like him that would explain it.

I'm not sure if Marty is even as hands on in the hockey ops side of things to even suggest we remove Melanson. I'm not sure he has enough influence unless he really said Melanson is just bad for our young goalies and get him the f*** out of here.

A few posters critiqued him because he said that he wants the goalie to play more deeper in their net, but Blackwood THRIVED under him. Cory was no good under him because he was permanently broken, just like he was no good under Terreri the year before we hired Rollie. Kinkaid had the best season of his career under him, but then had his worst season and only lasted about 5 games after he left here before he was waived and became an AHL tweener, which he's remained ever since. He got a few starts last year for the Rangers when one of their goalies was injured for a while.

Kinkaid was a goalie that had a shelf life in the NHL and these types of goalies don't make it too far into their 30's and that's exactly what Kinkaid was. The only goalies of his type that really make it too far into their 30's is someone like Scott Clemmensen, who if you remember, didn't have much of an NHL career before he was about 31 years old and that only happened because of the Brodeur injury. Before he was nothing but an AHL goalie guy and spent two seasons with the NHL Devils playing 5-8 games a year and watching the other 74-77 games from the bench.

The only time we really heard of Marty being very hands on in hockey ops was when Shero was fired and he and Fitz were supposedly taking over the day to day duties for that time being until we named a permanent GM.

when it comes to goalies I would expect Brodeur has his say. We will see if Schmid outplays Daws over the long haul but they promote Daws anyway.

It seems Marty has been a bit MIA from what we can see, but like I've been saying a lot lately, team coverage has been quite the scarcity lately. For all I know, Marty could be on every single trip and in the room every day? I would suspect he's not, but I would also suspect he's around more than he seems to be.

Softy of the night is Mark Scheifele on Bernier

There was really nothing else that could compete with this last night.

This goal is so bad it actually looks like it literally went right through Bernier’s stomach and literally into his body and back out of it.

One sidenote. I can't find any video for the Tanner Jeannot goal on Jake Allen. There's no video for it on the NHL app, nor on their website when you do a search. I even went to twitter and couldn't find it. It's in none of the highlight videos they do for the game recaps. So Jake Allen gets a possible mulligan on that one since I didn't see it. It says ''Tip in'' so I'm assuming it was probably not a bad one, unless Jake Allen turned the puck over which led to the goal or if it was the type of ''Tip in'' goal on Bernier the night before on the fifth goal the Jets scored.

It’s an unlucky and freak goal, but it was too hard not to give this softy of the night.

Softy of the night is on Grubauer again and he’s back with his 5th or 6th softy of the night this year. Mikko Koskinen is very happy about this.

Softy of the night is this Jeff Carter goal on Grubauer.

That’s 23 stoppable goals on Grubauer, with 3 more added last night. Nobody else has even got 18 yet. 3 goals on 4 shots and all 3 were stoppable. He was done 5 minutes into the game.

Sometimes I feel like these are unlucky goals and I try not to give them a softy of the night, unless there's nothing better (or worse) that would warrant a softy of the night.

It definitely is an unlucky goal, but I still give the goalie a stoppable goal on it.

This is a new goalie from the looks of it. If tonight isn't his NHL debut, then he must only relief appearances or he hasn't allowed a goal I counted stoppable in the last 4 years because I don't have him in my database at all. I can't recall typing or seeing his name ever.

And Aaron Dell is dressed as the backup tonight, what the hell happened to Subban? Did he get exiled already after that game the other night (he sucked) or is he injured?

That goal was a tip right in front anyway. That wasn’t scored on the shot from behind the net. That won’t get a stoppable goal from me.

i’m sorry if you’re marking that as stoppable it brings the whole scale into question. it’s literally something that had never been done before how do you expect a goalie to react?

This was a horrible goal, but they don’t give you a conclusive enough replay.

If that puck slipped across the goal line on Hart would that be softie of the night?
I’m not sure if someone tipped that and it went through him and slid to the goal line or what? All I remember is seeing it on the goal line from the behind the net camera view, which is where the play was being shown for quite a bit before that. It even looked like the Flyers defenseman that fished it out was almost gonna put it over the goal line.

It might have been softy of the night though.

As far the softy of the night, I’m gonna hold off on that until tomorrow. It’s either gonna be the first Rantanen goal on Huska or one on Holtby.

The goal on Huska looks way worse on the replay on one of those angles than it did initially going in.
