GDT: GM#59 LA Kings vs Washington Capitals @7:30pm 2/18/19

You, apparently. Though I can provide more colorful descriptors if you’d like.

This team lacks talent for a lot of reasons, one of those being a raw shortage of top thirty picks between 2010 and 2017.

Picks outside of the top 10 have a sub 50% chance of playing 300 or more games in the NHL.

Repeat that in your head until you understand it. Then read a book on statistics.

The NHL draft is a glorified coin flip unless you’re drafting in the top ten, arguably top five. So if there’s any Lombardi pick you should be all over, it’s the Hickey pick in 2007.

No **** we’d prefer Tarasenko over Forbort’s useless carcass. Just like virtually everyone in the 2010 would prefer Nikita Kucherov to their entire draft pool. Therefore, if this phenomenon is ubiquitous across the entire league, it must be inescapable.

It’s like complaining about traffic on the 405 at 5pm on a Wednesday. It’s pointless, plebeian discourse.

Got it. You’re saying the Kings can’t find talent outside of the top 10, despite plenty of examples being available of sub-top 10 picks who are among the top scorers in the league today, like a Pastrnak or Barzal or Connor or Gaudreau or Point or Giroux, need I go on?

If a team that seldom has a first round pick keeps missing on the ones they do have, that isn’t setting up the team for success down the road. That’s a recipe for disaster and failure. Hence, the results we’ve been witnessing for the past five years.

Also, DL refusal to see the league evolving right before his eyes. He was in total denial as the league got younger and faster.
I really don’t think that’s accurate. You honestly believe that Lombardi, or any GM across space and time would be unhappy with a team full of young, fast talented players? Or do you think maybe it’s that the real issue is that those kind of players are hard to find?

yeah no shit there haven't been shots on net foxy, they've been hemmed in their zone chasing the game for 40 minutes

2 minutes left, down 2 goals and they start pawing at each other at center ice

you missed the window to give a f*** by a LONG LONG TIME guys

Pretty spot on.

Draft picks outside the third round have less than 20% chance to set foot on NHL ice. Even 1st/2nd round picks only really have about 60% (about there) to play more than 100 NHL games.
