2024-25 General Dallas Stars Talk

I’d take that job for 250k a year. Not a genius like you though :)
And that's fine, has nothing to do with being a genius or not. For a lot of people it's a hell of a salary. I run my own company, it would be a significant pay cut, though probably a lot less stressful.

Damn. Hook me up with some season tickets down here :p

I'm a cheap bastard but pretty sure Stars season tickets are waitlisted anyway. I looked into about 6months back as i toy with the idea of selling off and retiring.

Nah, not going to do that, nothing good can come from it.
Grindr CEO confirmed

I get the feeling Nill won’t be adding defense unless it’s for a depth one to replace Dumba. He’ll probably role with

Lindell-Miro*
Harley-Lybushkin
Bichsel-Ceci
Depth D

I think he might target another top 9 forward with size however. Brock Nelson although I think there will be a bidding war for him. Maybe a Brandon Tanev type. We’ll see

Ek65, they could probably make work, if they actually wanted too, only 2yrs left.
Jones has 4yrs left on his deal, he's been horrible in Chicago, granted who hasn't, but that's a long boat anchor if it's not just the Chicago effect

After @M88K ’s Totally Legal Construction Company promises to cover their salary :sarcasm:
Best I will do is Makar/Hughes take it or leave it

I’m always puzzled when I see posters suggesting this. And I mean it’s obviously an option since there are some reports out there suggesting the same thing.

I just fail to see the benefit of adding another forward when we’re pretty stacked to say the least. Unless Nill isn’t comfortable with Stank/Bourque both being in the lineup come playoff time, I just think our assets would be better spent on adding another RD imo.

Yeah I’m only going off of the reports I’ve read or heard and what Nill said on Chiclets. I’m with you on all of that.

I could see either scenario becoming reality. Good arguments for both adds. But I also lean more towards adding a RHD to push Ceci to the 7th role and option if/when Bichsel struggles come playoff time. Tho I’m willing to give Ceci time to prove that he can be a top4 quality guy in tough games.

You're looking at some combo of Bourque, Back, Steel, Blackwell or Smith as a 4th line.
They could benefit from a little more grit/skill in that group, or even just a buffer incase of injuries, but that should be secondary to getting an actual top 4 RD which we desperately need. (and getting dumba off the roster)

Until Miro returns and pushes Ceci to the 7th role like @Johno said.

I works for the man and lack the business owner acumen to propose the deal with Chicago. Just assuming Dumba goes the other way

No I'm not taking that much of a pay cut, that job doesn't pay enough to waste my time with
More seriously, take a look at the situation at the time. Nill wouldn't sign Tanev for 6 years and 4.5-5 million, knowing he has others to sign down the road, and that Tanev would be 41 when the contract was done. You probably would have trashed that move, as well.

Take a look at the other top UFA d men available last year. Those all signed $6-7Mil over 6-7 years, which would also put the Stars in a bind in the near future. Instead, he signed 3 mid to lower level UFA D men for 1-3 year terms, basically hoping 2 would work out, for $8-7Mil per year and a shorter term. Yes, only Lubs really worked out, but he decided that this type of risk was worth it. And, despite our complaints, they are near the top of GAA average for the league, so it must have worked out okay in total, even if you want to bitch about Dumba having bad metrics.

So, yes, Nill's signing of those three D men is defensible, when you look at it like a GM and try to balance going all in with long term planning. At least, IMHO.

You think Ceci as a RH PKing dman will be sat before Lian the rookie? I can't see it unless their play pushes PDB's hand in an obvious direction ie Lian goes absolute beast mode or Ceci just absolutely stinks. Ceci has almost 100 PO games under his belt...I think the chances of him sitting are nil.
