You do realize the more recent draft mistakes from 2010-2015 is directly impacting the current team, and things aren’t looking promising in the future, right?

Maybe things get better when the Kings start getting younger and some young talent is injected into this lineup, but until that happens... what are we going to discuss when there is literally nothing happening in these goddamn games?

And if only the Kings had such luck in finding some of the gems you mentioned in later rounds.

Here lies the problem. They went away from what made them successful to missing badly draft after draft. Had DL not tried the wrong way to win that 3rd cup with risky trades, they may not be where they are today. Those 2 firsts and misses in the 2nd with the wrong type players killed this team.

So applying your reasonable logic, we can’t cast doubt on their drafting ability. This team is lacking in talent because of mistakes made, but hey, every team makes them, so we should just be satisfied with how they’ve drafted.

Picks outside of the top 10 have a sub 50% chance of playing 300 or more games in the NHL.

Repeat that in your head until you understand it. Then read a book on statistics.

The NHL draft is a glorified coin flip unless you’re drafting in the top ten, arguably top five. So if there’s any Lombardi pick you should be all over, it’s the Hickey pick in 2007.

No shit we’d prefer Tarasenko over Forbort’s useless carcass. Just like virtually everyone in the 2010 would prefer Nikita Kucherov to their entire draft pool. Therefore, if this phenomenon is ubiquitous across the entire league, it must be inescapable.

It’s like complaining about traffic on the 405 at 5pm on a Wednesday. It’s pointless, plebeian discourse.

Also, DL refusal to see the league evolving right before his eyes. He was in total denial as the league got younger and faster.
