I find it amazing that teams can spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a marketing/design team for their logos and some of the ones used by the NHL teams are just meh....

Logos have to have some detail but not over the top since you have so many different items you can put it on, like shot glasses, toques, etc. and not too simple on larger items like hoodies, jerseys, t-shirts, etc.

Canucks have just lacked continuity on their logos, like the teams with animals for example.
my field right now is design/marketing/consulting - and the price matrix that companies pay is f***ED UP for what they get

Yup, to me that ugly monstrosity is 100x worse because it's also inherently connected to Mark Messier.

The early '90s uniforms were absolutely badass and I'm still confused as to why they're so polarizing although I obviously understand that they are.

I see the logo and colours as completely disconnected from the city, province, and name. Every time I see it, I just see weirdo 90s nostalgia and a boring as skate that means nothing.

Biggest game of the year so far--with first place in the West on the line. When was the last time that was the storyline involving the Vancouver Canucks?

Really hope the Canucks have recovered their energy level--it's the only way they beat this big, fast Vegas team. But Demko always seems to play lights-out against them--and they're probably going to need that kind of goaltending again.

The key to tonight's game will be the PP. Vegas will take some over-aggressive penalties. Canucks need to make them pay.

my major childhood hockey watching years were the early 90s, so it’s a total mindf*** when i watch a game where, say, we’re wearing black skate jersey and calgary is in its classic colours. because like 6 is adrian plavsic, 8 is greg adams, 21 is lumme, 25 is nieuwendyk, 10 is gary roberts, 20 is gary suter. mostly not an issue because there are so many high numbers now, but it’s distracting.

and the whale... i can’t not see messier when i see that logo.

I started watching during the WCE so I'm lucky where I associate that logo with are teams in the 2000s and early 2010s and not that penis head. I actually think the orca looks really good with the blue and green and no word mark. I totally get why people hate it though. Going from the skate jerseys and Quinn years and the Orca just reminds them of Orca Bay, Mike Keenan, and Penis Head.

The orca is not a very good logo, but the skate is a million times worse, in my opinion. It's just embarrassingly cheesy and only works as a throwback retro thing where cheesiness is endearing. I would outright say it's comparable to the Buffaslug in terms of laughable, despite the nostalgia it holds. At least the orca has some professionalism to it and doesn't look like some amateur design made by a dorky teenager trying to be cool and failing. I don't even care about the whole "spaghetti" comparison, it just looks awful the way it's meant to be seen, even if you change the colors.

I think the updated Stick and Rink is the only solid logo we have. The fact that the jersey looks so damn classy and perfect with it despite the logo appearing deceptively boring in isolation is exactly what makes it brilliant, IMO.

I think Johnny Canuck is a good conceptual base that would make the most sense to build a new logo around, but I'm not thrilled with the existing designs of it (the fan V one included).

agreed 100%

i'll just add that the 90's nostalgia is doubly embarrassing because that team didn't win anything. in the same way that the isles fisherman logo is ziggy palffy and mike milbury trading luongo and chara, the black skate will forever in my mind be about trevor linden, the guy who won nothing, was an overrated career grinder that then had a wack PA stint, and then became the president in charge of hiring the biggest moron to ever step foot in the organization. one of the weakest jersey retirements league wide. etc. this is off-topic, but the guy is basically our version of j. toews, minus any actual winning or elite play... you guys see that, right?

the stick and rink is a classic, terrific logo, with perfect colours.

It’s definitely improved with the blue and white colours and no wordmark. But I still maintain the skate jerseys are the best and should be the primaries.

I mean, nostalgia is a big part of the 'feels' of a uniform. There's nothing special about any of the 06 logos but the history gives them a ton of extra cache. And the fact that Bure and Linden and Lumme and Gino wore those unis while they were kicking ass, and that those unis made them look badass as hell while doing it matters to me.

To me, 'trying to incorporate local flavour into the logo/colours' is how you get some some sort of marketing firm generic nothing meaningless logo which to me is what the Orca is. And the history of that logo is John McCaw and 'a phone call can move this team' and Mark Messier and Mike Keenan and it simply does not give me good feels at all. And, again, it's just a whale badly drawn over a Flames/Bears/Reds logo. At least the Skate is something original/different/easily recognizable.

I think in terms of 'clean look' and pleasing the most people the original uniforms are still easily the best. And I'd be so happy just to go back to the 70-71 uniforms and call it a day.

But I also think the last iteration of the skate looked really good and was a cool, mean-looking uniform and I love whenever the get brought out. And to me there's a blue-collar, 'proud of our team, proud of our uniforms even if people don't like them' thing that's tied up in them that I can't really articulate as well as I'd like to. They *meant something* to people at the time, more than that stupid whale will even if it's there for 100 years.

I also love the 77-84 Flying V no-logo uniforms but I know I'm on an island with that.

To whoever suggested they would bet $100 that the Canucks won't win 4 games before the end of the year, I would love to take that bet. However, a bet isn't live until we both agree on ground rules for payment. (I have seen way to many people make bets where they make a rush bet and with every intention of collection but no intention of paying)

Win and we tied for top spot in the entire NHL with the NYR!
Jim Benning’s vision finally being realized. If only we had given him more time!
would be nice to win this one alright. But NYR's have 3 - 4 games in hand. The top 5 teams in the west are all 7 - 9 games over .500 . In the east, NYR are 12 over, Bost 10 and the next 4 are all 4 - 6 over.

The Canucks need to go on a streak to separate themselves from the pack.

I have to spend the next 2 weeks in Mexico, damn it, so it will be hard for me to watch these games.

 That’s what I get for trying to reply while standing in security at the airport.

I love the skate. Maybe it’s just my nostalgia talking!

I have a weird brain that just doesn't react to nostalgia the same way most people do. When something is trying to cater to the past, I look at it negatively. Nostalgia is a dirty word to me.

Like $100 would matter to you ....

Anyhow, what are you doing up at 5 a.m.???

I don't think it's nostalgia.

Like, I remember when that change was made in 1997 and it was not popular. The final iteration of those uniforms was very well-liked by the public at the time and it isn't just retroactive nostalgia to bring back something that was considered ugly in it's day. Those uniforms were popular and looked good.

I acknowledge your opinion but vehemently disagree with most of it.

I do not think this game is a matter of Energy Level. I think it is almost entirely a matter of confidence. When the Canucks were on that early streak, albeit more against weaker teams, they were skating, passing, and playmaking with absolute confidence and they slaughtered several opponents. A few games have certainly had problems with combined effort, but I am just saying I think confidence is a bigger factor. And, with a few players sick and injured you could really see how it affected the team overall performance.

Making money the old fashioned way, gambling. Ready for a poker game?

I don’t really actively hate any of the jerseys the team has worn during its existence (I have every home, away, and alternate jersey they’ve ever worn hanging on my wall). But I do have ones I like more than the others.

EDIT: For example, I think the Canucks should totally wear the Flying V once a year on Halloween. Lean into our interesting history and have some fun with it.
