It's almost certain the Leafs are anticipating getting a 2nd buyout window and using that. My question is, how does that work? Do you get the arb hearing, then the buyout window, then you can negotiate a deal before a ruling?
3 days after buyout settlement or award, and then it’s a 48 hour window to buyout.

The cap hit is only 687 500$ next years for toronto, it's not that much.

They just need to go in abritation with samsonov

I dont really see any scenario other than a buy out here.
I agree. Owners are rich but having to fork over 6M in real money for a broken-down backup goaltender is not worth a return of a 2nd round pick or C-level prospect. And i don't see the Leafs giving up a 1st when they do the buyout.

Hyperbole. He was healthy to finish the season. Leafs are in cap hell. LTIR'ing a previously healthy player due to the team's cap crunch will raise alarm bells. This isn't an anti-Leafs bias. Its reality.
Didn’t Mike Smith play out the Stanley cup
Playoffs. And then magically LtIR’d

Like Tampa and Vegas have done? Murray is a known bandaid. If the leafs medical staff decide he’s not healthy enough to play and carry a load it would be up to Matt to prove otherwise.
Odds are he shuts up and collects his 8m otherwise he’d get bought out and only be owed 2/3 that over 2 years. If there’s no move to be made to get him on another team then it’s in everyone’s best interest to just go away and get paid.

Had to give up a 1st for Mrazek so at least a 1st and a prospect to get someone to take Murray leafs have no leverage.

They didn’t give up a first to dump Mrazek. They traded down 13 spots. That would normally be a 2nd and 3rd. They got the second and gave up the third with Chicago taking Mrazek instead. They can just buyout Murray anyway.

My understanding is that the Leafs can't buy out Murray unless any of Samsonov, Der-Arguchintsev, or Abruzzese go to arbitration

If /when . Point is if they want to buy him out there is avenues to do so . This painted into a corner /1 st round compensation just isn’t going to happen . 2 million cap penalty is far easier to absorb with the sizeable increase coming. Everyone licking their chops needs to slow their roll a bit lol .

Mike Smith was like 40 lol. Murray just turned 29.

Not passing his physical at 29, you are basically telling him to retire. It is really young, not sure he'd be on board with that even if you find doctors to say he's toast.

Yes, the leafs have options to either trade at a cost or, if you go to arbitration, buy out the nasty cap hit left by this awful deal done just a few months ago for a player that was almost unanimously flagged as being an excessive injury risk. The minority voice was Leaf fans with blinders on. Yes, you have options to deal with that.
