Flip Sammy + Murray for a pick.

Grab Vladar from Calgary.

Samsonov received a QO and is arbitration eligible.

I am guessing this is the Leafs back pocket option. If they can't make a trade work, take Samsonov to arbitration and then use the arbitrated contract as a reason to buyout Murray.

No one “wants” an oft injured goalie that has an 8 million dollar actual salary this year
Leafs could attach a draft pick/prospect and retain some salary to make it happen, "if" a team were interested. If not then buyout in August, pretty simple stuff.

What do you think the asking price would be for a team to take on his cap and 6M salary? Bearing in mind that its a limited number of teams due to Murray’s NTC.

Buyout is the only logical option.

to be fair Murray likely wont force his NTC on trades. If he gets bought out it will be hard to recoup the lost earnings on his next contract. So its better for him to just get traded and earn his full 8M.

I have no idea what other teams needs are and what they are thinking. The other team could trade for him and buy him out. Murray may be open to being traded to more teams given the fact he needs playing time and a chance to rebuild his career. Leafs could retain salary. He could be included in a possible Nylander trade. Leafs could acquire Gibson from ANA, and move Murray out. Who knows. They have a lot of time to figure it out. Obviously if there is no fit, the default would be to buy him out, as the cap hit is only $687k this year.

Nothing lol worthy about it. We’re not paying a 1st to get rid of a guy who can be bought out for a pretty small amount

Oof. That combined with how few picks Toronto has to facilitate offloading him makes a trade look really tough. Buy out candidate?
Based on reading other Leaf fans posts, isn't there an issue with Murray's cap hit next year which would happen in a buy out scenario?

Only team that can buy him out is the Leafs.

It's not a pipe dream because again, he played less than 30 games. He was unavailable for 50+ games. By the time he is healthy, someone else is hurt and then he comes back plays a game and is hurt again

And if things don’t like up like you want you have to put players on waivers until you are cap compliant. And since you can only bury 950k of each contract…things get dark real fast. Just an insane viewpoint on your side to be honest. The Leafs will figure it out, but it won’t be free, but it won’t be the end of the world. Your plan carries just insane risk.

That would mean he has accepted his QO of $2m, which is unlikely. He's worth about $3m on a 1 or 2 year deal.

If he doesn’t file for Arb it means his options are to agree to the QO , Negotiate a new contract with the leafs or a team he is traded to or play in another league .

Just means he can not have an arbitrator tell the leafs they have to pay him a certain amount or he becomes a free agent
