To me we arent that far off.

We need one or two physical forwards to plug holes next year. Having skilled forwards like zib, panarin and to lesser extent kreider isnt bad, but they need to have the bruisers around them to creat space.

Kreid-Zib-????
Pan-tro-laf
Cuyl-chytil-????
Vesey-good-Rempe/edstrom

Let berard/oth/sykora come up when injuries occur. They could all use more time in AHL anyway.

Trade Kakko for picks hopefully a first. Or a young dman

The biggest problem is defense. It needs a major overhaul

Fox and schneider are the only two that are worth keeping, though lindgren on 3rd pairing wouldnt be the worst

???-fox
Jones-schneider
Lindgen-????

I would trade Miller for the highest first rounder possible, or a good young tough top 6 RW.

Miller might even get you a pick in the high single digits depending on the team.

Trouba trade with 50% retention to maybe get a second rounder for him. Or a middle six forward with some jam.

Next i sign Skjei. And i play him with fox or schneider. If he plays with schneider u still need a top pairing dman. Dont think jones would work there.

If trouba stays then i would go

???-fox
Jones-schneider
???-trouba

With skjei hopefully filling 1D next to fox.
No one would touch Trouba’s contract. Mika and Bread vanishing when it counts is the problem. They are never top-6 material come playoff time.

We can go back further, but we had the same issues with Nash and MSL disappearing when the ice got tighter.

Why does this keep happening?

I almost miss the six-goalie era. Lol

They didn't get lucky with Carolina. They beat them.

They are barely losing to Florida and a bounce here or there they could easily be up in this series. They've all been 1 goal games (game 1 I count as a one goal given the fluke & EN).

This is a team that is incredibly close to winning the cup. The D needs improving, no doubt. The offense really does not. They just need a D that can get them the damn puck and not just throw prayers up the middle of the ice.
The first three games were decided by one goal; they got lucky.

They almost blew a two-goal lead in game 3 this round

They need to score a lot more goals, not turtle on one-goal leads.

You would be surprised. They may have to retain some money or add a pick or something but there are teams out there that would trade for him for sure. This is the 1 move that needs to be done this summer or buy him out. He cannot be on this team next year. He's a liability on the ice and we don't need his "leadership".

There's always luck involved in the playoffs. They deserved to beat Carolina. It's not a question, it's a fact. This series is also incredibly even.

You can argue with the style of play, but acting like they don't deserve to be here, or aren't in the conversation with Florida or Carolina is wrong. I get you're raw right now, we all are, but it's just incorrect.

There are moves they can do to improve (quite a bit) this off-season. Will they make them, I don't know. It all starts with the D.

I know. That’s what’s so puzzling. How did they all miss that? Mackenzie said that like 8 of the 20 scouts he interviewed had him as #1 or something crazy like that. Im not blaming the Rangers for this one.
I'm not blaming the Rangers either. At the very least I thought he would be a middle 6 solid NHLer but it's now been 5 full years and he's being scratched in the playoffs. Sad.

I think another big difference between FLA and the NYR is that FLA just tries to get the puck on net. Carolina did the same thing. The Rangers are always looking for that perfect pass. You can't play like that in the playoffs. Even if the perfect shot isn't there, it may hit a skate, it may hit a stick, the goalie might not see it, etc. But the Rangers insist on playing this tic-tac-toe style that just isn't readily available in the playoffs. Just get guys to the net and fire away. Even at bad angles. Like Boyle mentioned in the post-game show last night. Just throw a burger at the net (or behind the net). Keep the puck in their zone and chip at it.

You create your own luck.

Talking about legacy games. Tomorrow is going to be one for somebody.

The Rangers were down 3-2 going into Game 6 in NJ in 1994 and won the Cup. It isn't over till it's over.

I still believe, but goddamn do they look outmatched.

Agree they need to get pucks deep and get more pucks on net. Bob is (very) human. Frustrating that they didn't start doing this until after they were behind. Panarin was whipping everything at the net after that and looked more alive than he has the entire series.

They are playing too cautious. Part of that is on the coach too. Every shift they don't get a shot, he should be reminding them to rip, rip, rip and look for a dirty bounce.

Series not over. We've got like 3 months to talk about next season.

For now, time for desperation moves. Jumble the lines, insert Jones, insert Wheeler. Throw enough moving parts around to try to hope something throws off the balance.

I don't think the odds are great that NYR turn this around, but they aren't zero. By odd twist of fate, the wins and losses so far have mirrored those of the 1994 ECF.

Sooo here’s where we’re at….
Best part is no pressure. Just go out an play. Maybe they’ll actually start putting rubber on net.
Rempe is playing neutered… if he’s not off his leash, he prob shouldn’t be playing.
Lavi is really going to ride this PP right into the gutter…
Move Panarin to zibbys spot, get Zibby off the pp. guy can’t buy a goal for shit. His shot is so erratic right now.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen him miss the net as much as this season/playoffs. That was really one of the only things you can count on with him. At least getting his shot thru and maybe generating a rebound on a 2nd/3rd chance.

Gus killing that 2 man advantage while the team is up 1-0 changed the entire game from there out. Guy is a complete idiot. I get standing up for shesty, applaud it even, but mikkola is giving you a gift there in a 1-0 game where the team looks the best they have since early stretches of game 1. You have to read that situation and not be a total moron. Him and Trouba were bad again. Jones prob should have been in for this guy already after an awful GM 3 and 4, but that’s lavis guy. Was with him in WSH. It’s another decision that will haunt him.

Roslovic/wennberg/kakko is the most useless offensively inept 3rd line I think I’ve ever witnessed a playoff team have. Wennberg and kakko were good on the cycle/defensively/possessing the puck, and then it gets thrown away by a limp dick wrister with no one near the front of the net( dirty area where playoff goals come from)
It’s like a total waste of time… not 1 guy has the capability:threat/swagger to make an offensive play.

They really made life miserable for Laf and Tro tonight. They also know that Panarin won’t go into high danger/high traffic areas unless it’s completely open. They are content to keep him on the outside along the boards and completely make him a non factor. And this was one of his better games.
Zibby can’t give a 60 min effort. That’s a problem. Has the tools to be a beast, but not the heart.

The silver lining has been the growth of Laf and Tro, the experience guys like Cuylle, Schneider, and miller are getting, even Fox.
Shesty had that 1 squeak thru. Guy has been lights out. The team has to score, whether 5v5 or on thePP and bail him out once in a while.

I hope Lavi and Drury see the need to move on from Trouba ( hopefully this offseason) and Panarin when his deal is over, unless he asks out early ( which would be ideal tbh)

The guy is just a non-factor in a inch for inch war of a series like this one…
Much of the canes series was the same for him as well.

Tickering needs to be done, we really have a lot to like.

Replacing Panarin and Trouba in the next 2 years time with a better defenseman, and A stud needle mover on offense, hopefully center is critical……

The story of this series is the PP guys.
Can’t go 1-14 and expect to win…. Fox is the guy that stirs the drink. He makes the whole machine work…
His skill/shake and bake etc. he is the 1v1 player that makes the first defender miss by out smarting him, or just using high end skill.. it opens it up for the rest of the guys…
An injured fox can’t do it, and with a good kill like the panthers, if someone else doesn’t step up and provide that aspect, we’re finished.
Plain and simple.
Even strength Igor and the boys haven’t been lit up. We’re right there with them. Scoring on our pK has been great as well, but they have given up too many this series. The PP has to answer the call. It’s the biggest issue currently in the series

FLA has ground the Rangers down with physical play and it seems like the Rangers want no part of it save a handful of guys.

They need to drive the net, make plays from behind the goal line, obstruct them on their entries.
When they're skating (on the rush or cycling hard) they're harder to manhandle. The problem is that they get into the zone, stop skating and get pounded. They just don't have the size to deal with this style of play. It's too easy to just bump them off the puck. In fact, that's what Florida is counting on. The Rangers have been playing right into their hands almost every game.

i see the rangers trying to play smart and in system (whatever system that is) but that plays right into florida's hands. Florida's system is better, and it's being deployed by players who are better... at that system.

Rangers have to play with a greater sense of urgency, yet still stay grounded somewhat.
They have to up the aggression, shots on net, going to the net, etc.

They're playing too safe. and safe is ... you know what..

You can’t be afraid to try new players. The loyalty to some of these old vets that can’t play todays game is just killer. And this is lavis first year as coach and he has some weird sense of loyalty to some of these plugs. I get every coach has their guy(s) but this coach was supposed to preach accountability and playing hard. As soon as these coaches come here they fall under the spell of zibanejad and Trouba and I just don’t get it.

Dallas infused their roster with young kids that play hard in Johnston, Harley, stankoven.

We do the complete opposite. Rangers are way too risk adverse when it comes to trying new things. What’s the worst that could happen? They can’t play any worse then the plugs in the lineup.

Nepotism.

MSL was good, not great in 2014 and it as enough to get us into the Finals because we were actually a good team with depth.

Theres a difference between desperation lineup changes and desperation on the team overall. Its not that our lineup needs to change its that the players have to become desperate. They have to summon that inner gut power that the desperate one fighting for survival has. Will they become desperate and bring their play to a higher and more importantly a sustained level for the whole game duration? Can they play harder as the game progresses? If they kick ass a bit it could get inside the Panthers heads and rattle them. We need a sustained momentum shift. Pure desperation is the only answer.
