Post-Game Talk: Game 5

People are criticizing Mika and Kreider, yet they produced last night, even combined to score a nice SHG to change momentum of the game.

Panarin has not scored since Game 3 of the Carolina series, and has dipped below a PPG average after putting up 100+ points in the regular season.

Mr. 11 million dollar man needs to step up.

Mika and Trouba have literally swung momentum to Florida like 6 times each.

You're right about Panarin though, he's a small twerpy puke afraid of scoring on his dance buddy

Don’t get me wrong, Not saying Mika should not be criticized, I just think Panarin should be getting heat also, likely the same heat.

Why does this team give Sam f"n Bennett the blue line like he's Connor McDavid?
Yeah this has been a problem all series. Far too much space and deference being given to Florida. Obviously they're a really good team but a lot of what's going on is the Rangers not being confident and sagging off and opening space and lanes for Florida. It's all reactive and not proactive. Just gifting them zone entries and the NZ might as well be a red carpet.

I said it after Christmas, they needed to get Othmann and Berard some games, Othmann should have been in the lineup in this series, it's his type of series and Berard would be a better player to have than Rempe or Brodzinski. Rempe has done his part but we're likely better putting a player with speed in the lineup that actually gets to play

But how was he the number 2 pick and I remember several people saying it wasn't a guarantee that Huges would be picked first. Didn't he have great world juniors also? I honestly thought he would be a solid 2nd/3rd line type 50-60 point guy who is responsible defensively. I never thought it would be this difficult for him to score.
One of this board's Finns reported before the draft that between Turku / WC he'd scored 26 goals in 32 games. He also had 2 highlight reel goals in the WC.

To me we arent that far off.

We need one or two physical forwards to plug holes next year. Having skilled forwards like zib, panarin and to lesser extent kreider isnt bad, but they need to have the bruisers around them to creat space.

Kreid-Zib-????
Pan-tro-laf
Cuyl-chytil-????
Vesey-good-Rempe/edstrom

Let berard/oth/sykora come up when injuries occur. They could all use more time in AHL anyway.

Trade Kakko for picks hopefully a first. Or a young dman

The biggest problem is defense. It needs a major overhaul

Fox and schneider are the only two that are worth keeping, though lindgren on 3rd pairing wouldnt be the worst

???-fox
Jones-schneider
Lindgen-????

I would trade Miller for the highest first rounder possible, or a good young tough top 6 RW.

Miller might even get you a pick in the high single digits depending on the team.

Trouba trade with 50% retention to maybe get a second rounder for him. Or a middle six forward with some jam.

Next i sign Skjei. And i play him with fox or schneider. If he plays with schneider u still need a top pairing dman. Dont think jones would work there.

If trouba stays then i would go

???-fox
Jones-schneider
???-trouba

With skjei hopefully filling 1D next to fox.

Feels like Kakko should be mastering this skill given his lack of speed. He’s big. Why can’t he dominate in front of the net?
Because he cant get in there with the puck and Florida is doing a good job preventing pucks coming in from the point.

The Rangers need to do a better job of timing those plays when pucks do get through. Lafreniere has been outstanding at that. He'd reading the play and timing the shot when hes arriving at the net. It helps to not have your back to the play and also have quick edges around the net. Kakko needs to work on that. Hes too choppy with his strides.

Regardless of this, Florida is doing a nice job of keeping the Rangers out of the high slot in general. The forwards are in the right spots pushing everything to the walls. Thats where some extra body checking is in order for the Rangers. In all zones, because it will disrupt the assignments and positioning and open up holes.

We seriously need to sticky a post citing the fact that Rempe is the second fastest skater on the Rangers, faster than Kreider

Othmann was not close to ready this year. He was completely useless when he was called up and didnt really stand out in the ahl.

As for berard, again u dont put a rook with zero games into a conference finals.

He has also stopped point blank shots all series. He is not super human but he is still arguably the best goalie in this playoffs. He has done his job which is to give them a chance in every game. He has given them a chance in every game. Hank was also great, a HOFer, but he also couldn't get it done. You are blaming the player who has been the best on the team and screaming that he needs to do more. What about the guys that make 8, 9, and 11 mil. Shouldn't they be doing something to help the team win?
He's not, and he's done more than his job. Every goalie lets in a bad one now and then. He lets bad ones in less than that. He makes more AMAZING saves than most other goalies. If his team cannot rally around him and score some goals, then what else is he supposed to do? I swear I've felt at times it seemed he wanted to stickhandle down the ice and score his damned self. Has to be frustrating for him, that they can't score when needed.
Anyone mention that early PP opportunity when we already had a 1-0 lead? Could have made it 2-0 (just like game 4), could've done them in.

If you're under 25 Lavisaurus doesn't trust you. How are we going to add a lot of kids on ECLs and compete with this core and this coach? It's not going to happen.

I loved Gorton from when he first took over until around 2020 when it became obvious he had no clue what he was doing and al those prospects went AWOL.

Miller/Fox/Scheider are the three who will remain. Mancini may steal a spot as soon as this fall. Fortescue may begin fall 2025.

Yeah bro, you gotta go Wheeler and Cullye on the fourth line.

Rempe is going to be some player once he gets more man strength and his explosiveness kicks in. He's going to be very valuable for a future playoff run down the line.
Gorton had some warts but for me a majority of all the bad decisions and the rushed rebuild falls on JD once he arrived here.

This is a good point, and seems to be a trend to keep reverting back to blaming the same guys for past bad games even if they weren't the reason for last night's loss. I get the hate, but I thought Zibanejad and Kreider were decent last night. It obviously doesn't absolve the performance in the first 4 games, but I'm not going to pretend Zibanejad and Kreider were a reason for losing last night's game just because I'm frustrated with their series performance as a whole.

There are 2 real problems on this team. Trouba and Mika. One of them needs to be gone. The other stuff will be easier to work around. The Metro and the east really aren't that good aside from a handful of teams including the Rangers.
It has to be Trouba, right? July 1st he can be moved to a number of teams.
ZibenaBad has a full NTC/NMC. The most you can hope for Mika is make him an 82 game healthy scratch and hope he demands a trade.
