The organization absolutely is f***ed by the Zibanejad contract.
I've called it out all year. It's the single line item on the roster that has the largest downside risk and no real answer to fix.

How do you get around his NMC? What will it cost to acquire a real Cup Winning 1C in a trade? Do you end up cutting off your nose to spite your own face in that trade? How do you fit a real 1C's contract under the salary cap?

It's a massive hole you can't get out of. At least with Trouba, there are options. Not necessarily great options, but options nonetheless.

Outside of 2022 where Mika had a shit start but ended up scoring 10 goals in the playoffs he just doesn't have what it takes for playoff hockey. Panarin is a wonderful regular season player.

These guys can get you to the playoffs, but it looks like you just can't rely on them to win in the postseason.
Herein is the problem. IF the Rangers could have more O zone time and IF they could play more aggresively charging the Panthers goalie more causing chaos THEN they could maybe win.

Now I get Mika and Artemi like to circle from a distance and Mika does his 1 timers and Artemi does his shots hoping for a deflection. But Fla is too tight with their defense and we just lose that precious O zone time as the game drags on and they press their forecheck.

Somethings gotta give. The weird thing is every 1 st period we play better than them and then slowly fade. Maybe it comes down to stamina conditioning and strength.

We have a good team, shows glimmers of eliteness sometimes but not in this series. Were going to need lady luck to win game 6.

I think to myself at least were better than 28 other teams which honestly is something to be proud of.

Its always darkest before the dawn, right? Hope for a miracle 2 in a row.

Our 3rd line is Ros/Wennberg and Kakko. lol. What a dumpster of a line. Thanks Drury. Didnt improve our defense and got those 2 guys.
That third line is more on Lavi than Drury. Roslovic absolutely destroys that line, which even though they didn’t score much, didn’t give up anything with Cuylle on it.

Shesterkin has a tremendous game but both goals are bad. Watching the forsling one again there’s no move the shot isn’t under the bar it’s low he gets a big piece that should have been an easy save. It’s two bad goals. To many bad goals. When he has to be the difference for this team. We know he has to be the difference we know fla will out chance us. But to make the amazing saves and let up the back breaking stupid ones is a killer and that happened really in all 3 losses. Game 1 just a joke of a goal.

Igor is not Lundqvist or even Richter …

They struggled to elevate the puck all night. Bob is good down low. Shoot high and crash the net next game.

When they shoot high they miss the net by 3-4 feet…

They will destroy either Dallas or Edmonton.
And so would we. I predicted Rangers/Dallas for the cup......waaaay back when we played them. They looked like a cup team, and so did we. Kills me to say "IF" we don't win the next 2, that would mean we fell just 1 or 2 wins, short of winning the Cup.
Tired of being the bridesmaids guys. I mean, don't you all want to be glorified 10-20, heck forever years down the road? Just win.
I'm not giving up. Until it's official, we've come too far to give up hope, despite literally EVERYTHING. NHL wants 7 games, let's give them what they want! LGR's!

The organization absolutely is f***ed by the Zibanejad contract. I can't take watching him play without courage for another minute but there are six more years.

They made it buyout proof just like Panarin's too, by loading it up with signing bonuses. I guess that's a little trick Drury learned from Gorton and JD. So good.

In any event, he should be reducing down to a mid-6 tweener role within a couple of more seasons, and 8.5 million will be less impactful as the cap gets up closer to 100 million. It might not be that bad if he plays a lesser role and isn't expected to be the guy anymore.

Could hurt his fee-fees and he may ask for a trade.

They're going to need to move the assets you want to keep/bring in to acquire now players.

No one is giving up those kinds of players for Mika and Trouba. Mika is pretty much unmovable.

Weegar was great (and still is very good) and Huberdeau was coming off of a 100+ point season and a hart nomination (red flags around this season, but perception is reality for some.)

That level of player is not going to be available anyway. The Walmart version of him might be (if you buy the Brady rumors out of Ottawa) but even if you want him, there are tons of other teams who probably would too and are better positioned to acquire him.

I agree that they're going to have to get rid of some popular locker room players but we're looking at guys on that Lindgren tier. Maybe a Trouba but I doubt there will be a ton of interest there.
It's going to be very interesting to see what Drury does this off season and I think it's going to define his tenure as GM. Igor is going to need a new deal after next year and I think its safe to say he's going to get a very nice raise which may limit the team's cap maneuverability going forward. Core is also going older and on very long-term deals so how many more shots do they really have after next year?

Agree with you on Trouba and think the Rangers will need to attach picks for anyone to take him. Mika/Panarin are unmovable and although I wouldn't be a fan of making such a move, Kreider has a very movable deal and could attract a lot of interest.

I need him to truly steal a game. Not win a game 5-4. I need a stolen game from a super star goalie at some point. That’s just reality. Super stars do that.

Having said that. We haven’t played a desperate game yet. Saturday will be our first one. This team hasn’t lost 3 times in a row many times this year. Shesterkin hasn’t lost 3 times often ever. Bobrovsky has been awful at home in the playoffs. We can win this game. If we do everything changes. This is far from over.
Igor absolutely stole Game 3, despite the score, and would have stolen Game 4 as well if the they had more than 1 competent non-injured defenseman in front of him.

Love these vets that are no shows when it counts in the playoffs. Drury really needs to get more playoff type of players ones that can score in small spaces when things get tighter. Not wussies like Panarin Zibanejad Roslovic. Useless in the playoffs
Panarin and Zibby, well it is what it is. They're quality players, just waiting and waiting for them to come up HUGE. If it doesn't happen, I guess oh well. But.......'
adding an absolute waste product in Roslovic and just a very ho hum, boring, line filling player in Wennberg was nothing but a waste of time. They've provided NOTHING to speak of, didn't make our team BETTER for the PO's, and Drury didn't catch even a flicker of lightning in a bottle.

Drury puts his job on the line when players don't come through, that's 2 years running now with bad additions.

Yes, the Panthers depth, compete level and unwavering approach is impressive. I give them credit. They have been the better team overall in this series, but i still think its a razor thin matchup. If you played this series 50 times it would be close to 25-25. All 4 teams left can win it all. Thats why they play the games. The teams that are left are here for a reason.

Its not over yet. Just win one game to get it back to the Garden to give yourself a shot.

I hear you. I also mentioned this last night, about reduced ice time and role -- as early as next season but that's a pipe dream unless Lavi takes a 180 degree heel turn. There are 3 more years of Kreider and him together, then Kreider probably retires and 3 years of Mika remain, but by that time, a buyout probably makes as little sense as it does now. For once, I am aboard the wagon calling for Laf to be promoted to the top power play unit. Again, will Lavi break up the top unit?

Rangers on the boards the last 30 seconds is what the team is. No one trying to push bodies out the way, just standings there at a distance trying to poke the puck away with sticks.
Even though but a glimmer of hope, THAT infuriated me. Somebody CRUSH someone in that corner and the other grab the puck.
Wasn't it 3 on 2 there as well and couldn't get it loose? What about Fox's bonehead icing? Jeez.
