Post-Game Talk: Game 5

Your goalie is rarely going to be perfect. What does it matter if he makes 5 ridiculous saves and lets in a softie? It means they're down 5 instead of down 1. As much as I wanted Igor to make that save, he saved their asses MANY times last night. You DO have to score to win games. And the Rangers offense isn't scoring. Period.

It's incredible how he is beyond reproach like Hank was. Hank straight up stunk for games at a time in the playoffs and Gid forbid you said anything. Igor hasn't had that but gives up backbreakers every game. And we have to pretend it didn't happen.
Let's say Igor doesn't let in any softies. Rangers still lose because they can't score enough if their lives depend on it. And it's not because Bobrovsky is good.

Complaining about Shesty is just pointless. I suppose it would be healthy if he were to suck ass, because then some people would realize how flawed the team is.

12 giveaways

0 PP goals

How about this:

The margin when you combine Games 3-5, though? That would be 23-5 high-danger chances at five-on-five and 24-8 at all strengths in favor of the Panthers during the collective third periods, per Natural Stat Trick.

Expand it to scoring chances and it’s 43-12 at evens, 51-19 overall.

Definitely should have had that goal but he also should have given up like 10 other ones that he stopped so it is what it is. 1 SHG ain't gonna cut it

Both were extremely stoppable shots, so there's your 1-0 win right there.

When you let Gustav Forsling come in and slap a backhander off the top of your pad into the back of the net it's curtains. Don't care how many between the legs shots he stopped a foot in front of him.

Talent without hard work means nothing. this series is Exhibit A. Reinhart and Forsling are outplaying Panarin and Fox. who are the more talented players?

BTW, if you're an executive at a company and do 9 things right but the 10th is really bad something tells me you get criticized. The coddling if Shesterkin because he does his job and does well most of the game but shits his pants on easy shots regularly is ridiculous. Why is a director at some mid sized company not immune to negative feedback but the millionaire goalie on the Rangers is?

I think what he's trying to say is, do you want to look at the glass as half full, or empty? Again, we should count our blessings. Ummm, I do believe there are 28 teams watching both series, wishing they were still playing.
If they went down playing their best lineup I’d agree. But when you lose by 1 goal repeatedly and there’s an obvious difference maker in the press box it’s hard to accept

I think it's because even though that soft goal is a reason we lost, Shesterkin is the reason we didn't lose by 4.

Yeah, no one is saying that the team in front of him has been good. But that doesn't absolve him of giving up at least one softy a game.

Bob let in softies, too.

The difference?

His team doesn't cough-up the puck, are a threat on special teams, suffocate teams in the offensive zone, aren't shy to go into the dirty areas to score goals, love to take shots.

Also, explain how we should blame our goaltender when the other team has exceeded TRIPLE DIGIT DIFFERENCE in shot attempts!

If you want to give Shesterkin shit about the bad goals, go ahead. A lot of people just think that it's not really worth it, because he's not the key reason why this team is losing the series. He's playing well above even a good NHL goalie, which there are not that many of. If you expect your goalie to steal you every single game, that's not happening. Not even with prime Hasek.

Rangers fans have been spoiled for two decades with great goaltending. Letting in one soft goal per game is almost the norm for any goalie in the league.

Perfectly fair to criticize, as long as you also address when he's been fantastic(which is most of the time). The same should be true for someone working at a company.

We had like 4 or 5 shots from the side that rebounded off Bob to the opposite side of the net that missed our open forward by like 5 feet. If any of those bounce on our stick, it's an empty net. Actually on Florida's back breaking 2nd goal, a hard rebound just missed Kakko trapping 3 guys deep. Panthers scored on the 3 on 2 counter. Florida is just better at capitalizing on their chances.

Yeah but if a guy gives up bad goals at bad times even with a better team he'd likely do that and you play a lot of close games in the NHL playoffs. So that's not good. And if one soft goal per game is standard then in this respect he's playing average.

It's late to be trying new things but imo we need to put 2 good players on each line 1-3 and see if we can get some players away from tough matchups...kinda like

Kreider Mika Wheeler
Roslovic Trochek Lafreniere
Panarin Chytil Wennberg
Cuylle Goodrow Kakko
Run all 3 lines, play the 4th when you feel it's necessary

I scratched Rempe not cus I dont like him bit because they won't play him

This could free up either the trochek line or panarin.

And if one soft goal per game is standard then in this respect he's playing average.
He has the best GSAE from the remaining goalies, and not with a small margin either. This is like saying Lafreniere and Kakko are producing almost at the same average rate at this moment.

Yeah but if Lafreniere gave up one turnover a game that resulted in a goal against even though he produced he'd be criticized. A lot of people who are net positives at their job get criticized for their weaknesses.

Our top 6 forwards have 17 points in 5 games.
Florida's top 6 forwards have 24 points in 5 games.

Our bottom 7 forwards 5 points in 5 games.

How many of ours are Goodrow? All of them?

The argument has been made that you can't win relying on Zibanejad as your 1C. We don't. Trocheck is a better player and has a bigger role. The two teams are basically even when he and Barkov share the ice.

Is Zibanejad ideal? No, he basically just puts up points and does nothing else, but how many 2nd line centers are better?

We need our 3rd line to not be the worst line in the league. Florida's 3rd line aren't a scoring a ton but they can take a shift and take a shift in our zone. All of the combinations with Wennberg on them (not to single out Wennberg but to pull that line out of the noise) have been all of our worse lines.

This isn't the 4th line where you can just say "aw shucks" and hide them if it's not special teams. This is a top-9 line playing 16 minutes a game and from game 1 of the playoffs, they can't even go out there and take an NHL shift, and are scoring one goal per series.

Dallas' top six are a bunch of geriatrics and Robertson who has sucked.

They have four lines that can score, plus their top defenseman is healthy (must be nice) and they play him half the game instead of playing garbage (must be nice).

Another team with ZERO bad players.
