If he was bigger i would put him in the level of Rask and Lehtonen. Despite of his size he is very athletic, his every attribute is elite or very good. He has dominated in every level he has played. Next step is the hardest one to take but he has all the talent to become starter for nhl team.

It's been great seeing him play this year. Even if he isn't the biggest goalie he still makes up for it with his playing style and skill.
I wonder if he is going to stay in Liiga next year or try it out in NA?

Liiga for 1 year then to NA if he progresses as expected.

Does anybody have an update on his play early on this season? Outside of Fiala (unless Forsberg is still considered a prospect), I most excited about Saros as a prospect. Should slide in nicely if/when Rinne is on a decline.

His numbers are down substantially so far. I've seen 2 or 3 games and he looked OK to me, struggling a bit but he didn't look substantially worse than his past play.

Well... Sorry I asked ;)

Thanks for the update!

He's been an absolute stud the whole season, absolutely since returning from the wjc. HPK sucks other than Saros, he's the only reason we will likely clinche a playoff spot. I would love to have him here for another season but i guess that aint gonna happen.

Are they? GAA is down (1.76 -> 2.12) but SV% is not (92.3 -> 93.0). This would tell me he's just facing a lot more shots. Haven't really seen his games, but my HPK-loving friends are saying pretty much what critter says above - the team has been horrible this year and Saros is the biggest reason for them to still be in the competition for the playoff-spots.

Hes under contract with HPK until the end of 15/16. Im pretty sure theres a transfer agreement, but with how crowded the Preds minor league goalie situation is, I see no reason to think spending another year overseas and starting a lot of games isn't a good thing.

I don't see why he should stay. 2 years as starter here in Finland is enough. Staying for one extra year isn't going to help with anything.

Both Mazanek and Hellberg are RFA's after this year with waiver exception running out so neither is likely playing in the AHL next year.

Last year he faced ~22,6 shots/game. This year ~30,3.

This is great to hear. Thanks for the updates, everyone. Honestly, I'm more excited about Saros than any other of the Preds prospects (yes, Fiala included).

You have good reason to be excited. Last night Juuses equipment went missing after their flight, the whole team expected the game to be postponed, but were told to borrow another goalies equipment and play. Juuse only got his stuff in the first intermission.

−*Ainakin pystyin näyttämään itselleni, ettei ole mitään väliä mitä tapahtuu. Aina pystyn keskittymään

At least I showed myself that it doesn't matter what happens. I can always concentrate/focus

People say physical size is a knock against Juuse, I'd say his biggest positive is his size. Mental or psychological one that is. The kid is a gem.

Another great game for Juuse, 34 saves, 1 goal against and 4 shootouts saved as HPK won Tappara, 6th time in the league while we are 11th.

He is absolutely the best example for young Finnish hockey players. The way he has trained for years compared to his teammates when he was younger, he was on another level. He trained still when others went to drink beer etc. He still train more compared to some other HPK players (I can't say all, because I don't know). And you see the results. He has been awesome.

And he studied well and graduated with good grades last summer.

Quick update time for this thread. Finished the season with .929SV% as the number one goalie in a crappy team. Playing in the World Championship tournament for Finland against Slovakia as we speak. Looks like Hockey's Future updated his talent score to 8.0 at some point. One would think that Nashville is looking to bring him to North America as soon as possible.

He's playing excellent hockey today.

One thing worth of notice is Predators is in a hurry to sign him. If he doesn't get signed until 15th of June Saros would be re-entering the draft. Considering the depth of Nashville's goaltending and Rinne signed up until 2019 there's a decent possibility he may not sign ELC. Would be exciting to see how high he'd get drafted on the 2nd time around (with the resume Saros has) especially considering the draft year.

Saros would be the no. 1 goalie in couple NHL teams, if he re-enters the Draft, Edmonton should draft him in the 2nd round, it would solve their goalie problems, but i don't see a scenario where Nashville doesn't sign him

Great another lost prospect. after losing Vesey to UFA and now Saros.

Even if he chose not to sign with them, I'm sure Nashville would trade his rights at least.
