Ottawa if they do land Weegar and Giroux, will have done a pretty good job this offseason. With some growth from their youth, they could be a playoff contender. Detroit also has over $30 million in cap space going into Free Agency. This tough division, just got a lot tougher.
As ot stands right now, all the good teams will regress a bit (Tor, Tampa, Fla, Bos) and the bad teams will be a bit better (Ott, Buf, Det) with the exception being Montreal who is still in their way down.

Literally paid a 3rd, a 7th, and a 24 year old backup for the chance to downgrade based on last year's numbers and save approximately 1M.

People are obsessed with Dorion's offseason so far. The DeBrincat trade was good in a vacuum, and signing Giroux would be nice, but like... they're still like 3 big pieces from making the playoffs, especially in the Atlantic.
I don't get the obsession either.

I can understand that they wanted to move on from Murray, but all those moves equate to one big big woof.

Yet the guy who got a free starting goalie (along with 2 draft picks and 25% retention) is being laughed at - even when said goalie has 2 cup wins and is only 28.. Yes, I am not happy with the sweeteners, but that unhappiness is solely based on an unconfirmed report out of Buffalo.

Anyone know if there is an audio only version of either SN or TSNs tv show?

I dont want to listen to their radio shows but the real show. Dont want to drain my data for video in the background.

Thanks

Do they have a goalie for the future? Looks really thin beyond next year if Talbot moves on.
That's what I saw too. Unless they have someone good ready to step in, they traded away the guy who would have stepped in.

If Romanov got 13th overall, you would think Sandin could get at least a low first or the equivalent, right?

We better not lose him to an offer sheet.

Yeah, he's not that guy consistently.
He's petulant, disruptive and a player they should stay clear of which I'm confident they will.

Yup. Same can be applied to Subban, I’d stay away from both players tbh but Dubas is crazy about these lottery tickets.

If they can get Weegar and Giroux, I'd say they've done a really good job. They should be a threat to be Minny level good in the Atlantic.
Yeah I'd be a lot more bearish on them with those adds, especially because their defense is such a massive weakness and Weegar is great. I'm not crazy about DJ Smith either.

Be mad at Dubas for the trade... but why the vitriol for Malgin?

He was an NHL player before coming to Toronto and has pretty clearly only improved his game overseas

If he comes over we should only be hoping for his success and contribution to the team
And if he gets out played, then he gets out played. Count him as a Marlie, or let him go back home.

and I'm fairly certain there would be a mutual contract termination, and he'd go back home. He's not coming over to play in the AHL.

i think you're being incredibly biased. One of the worst things you can do is have your core grow up in a losing environment season after season. Talbot gives them a cheap reliable and short term fix in net which is good enough for a team to sneak in to the playoffs. G and weegar (SHOULD they get them is the caveat) would add serious veteran help and both will be great locker room presences. Debrincat gives them two legitimate lines and they didn't pay much to get him.

And a 3rd and 7th is nothing to get 4.5m+ for two years off their books to help facilitate some key vet signings/trades. Dubas who you both are praising and in a vacuum is a good gm as well paid a first to get 6M for 1 yr off the books.

You and morgs implying that dorion isn't having a better offseason than dubas is incredibly biased and honestly... just wrong.

Edmonton gave Kane a good sized bag, Florida is losing Marchment, probably Giroux and very possibly Weegar and Tampa traded McDonagh and will lose Palat.

I think you have to count on Robertson making it out of camp, and maybe ZAR or Domi. Trade Holl for a pick and Kerfoot for a player and get a goalie and that’s good enough.
