GDT: Free Agent Frenzy 2022

I don’t understand the tampering rules lol. So many deals already known
Which is why having the interview window made a lot of sense. Let agents, teams, and players have actual meaningful conversations, without having to be clandestine. (No actual dollar signs or terms could be discussed, but interest, fit, and team and player preferences could be explored.)
But then that was scrapped because... players were agreeing to contracts before the start of free agency... like they were doing before and are still doing after the existence of the interview period, anyway... in an even more colludey way.

Teams can talk to players beforehand. Numbers can't be thrown around but unless those talks are recorded and video taped, they can easily work around the "no numbers can be shared" by just denying it.
That is actually no longer the case.
They removed the talking period, so we're back to teams and players cannot talk unless explicit permission is granted by the owning club. And yet...

I had no idea. Big brain fart on my part. My bad.

If there's no talking period then yeah, that's bad. That's really really bad.

Looking at it from a 40,000 foot view, Ottawa did an awful lot of manoeuvring and spent quite a lot in assets to arguably be no better off in goal and not much cheaper either.
Literally paid a 3rd, a 7th, and a 24 year old backup for the chance to downgrade based on last year's numbers and save approximately 1M.

People are obsessed with Dorion's offseason so far. The DeBrincat trade was good in a vacuum, and signing Giroux would be nice, but like... they're still like 3 big pieces from making the playoffs, especially in the Atlantic.

I'd pass on Domi the person, but as a hockey player he's a fine 3rd liner and the dude has always loved the Leafs. I'd prefer not, but we know the Leafs do their homework.

Subban I'm interested in. Guy revitalized his career last year finally realizing he isn't the same guy he was in his Montreal days. A short term, low $$ deal intrigues me on the bottom pairing.
We need the guys with that passion! Domi will go through a wall for the Leafs. He’s gets under peoples skin on the ice. He’s not that offense player that people hoped when he got drafted but the guy gives a sh** . We need those kind of guys.

If they can get Weegar and Giroux, I'd say they've done a really good job. They should be a threat to be Minny level good in the Atlantic.

I feel like Domi could easily replace Kerfoot for less money. He'd also be a stopgap C in case of injury like Kerfoot is.

Yeah, he's not that guy consistently.
He's petulant, disruptive and a player they should stay clear of which I'm confident they will.

Ottawa if they do land Weegar and Giroux, will have done a pretty good job this offseason. With some growth from their youth, they could be a playoff contender. Detroit also has over $30 million in cap space going into Free Agency. This tough division, just got a lot tougher.

If both are on home town Spezza type deals, I'm all for filling in depth with these guys. The one big hole I was interested in seeing filled was goaltending, Keumper or Gleason were my picks, but those re out of the question now. We have our forward core and D core set, just need the 3rd and 4th lines settled, maybe a skilled mucker on the second line. Can Domi fill that role? Subban simple version I'd be happy with as a #6 if The Boosh doesn't get resigned. We need to sign Sandin and have him and Liljegren playing big minutes as a priority.

Should be...
Rielly. Brodie
Geordano Liljegren
Muzzin. Sandin
7th-Subban

Hello again, my question was and still is: Will the window to free agency open 1h from now, or 2 hours from now?

Manifesting a move involving Holl and Kerfoot getting liquidated and using 5M to acquire a forward who will make our 2nd line a net positive

Do they have a goalie for the future? Looks really thin beyond next year if Talbot moves on.

1 hour.
12-noon EDT
Thank you  I thought it has been like that for years but still had to be sure and aks about it. Now from the gym (rocky training) straight to the store and some cigars for the evening and drinks. This will be a notoriously BIG night

or a contract spot.
Be mad at Dubas for the trade... but why the vitriol for Malgin?

He was an NHL player before coming to Toronto and has pretty clearly only improved his game overseas

If he comes over we should only be hoping for his success and contribution to the team
And if he gets out played, then he gets out played. Count him as a Marlie, or let him go back home.
