They're going to sign 5 career AHLers and a league minimum backup.

Even names like Strome and Marchment is wishing too much, IMO.

They have work to do to catch up to Les Habitants

Not sure there's a splash to be made. The team is set. They need a lot more secondary and depth players.

I agree though the Leafs should probably move out a little bit of salary to really change up the secondary make up of the team. But... we'll see. It might be more something that happens in a few days/weeks.

People get worked up on Day 1 of Free Agency, but there's a whole 2 months afterwards.

They have to get their prospects in the line-up.

But I wouldn't be suprised by a couple players who want to put up some points for next years' July 1st.

Malkin taking 6.4 x 4 makes that Tavares contract feel like an even bigger kick to the dick.
Tavares will be 34 when his contract ends, and signed prior to the flat cap. Malkin will be 36 when his contract starts, and he is a 35+ contract signed during the flat cap.

Giroux is pretty much cofirmed with the Sens. (from Al's bro)

So Dorion was a legend and Melnyk held him back? Crazy.

A splash doesn’t need to be bringing in Kane or something. But we need a more capable forward group.

You’re right, it might be something we see unfold deeper in the off-season. I’m just interested to see if we do anything at all today. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are no additions to the roster today based on flexibility. Dubas might wait for the dust to settle and assess who is left.

We have a couple of candidates that can be leveraged in deals to shake up the middle of the roster, but overall I don’t think anything crazy will happen.

To be honest, I was only looking at production. Geno was over ppg last year. I think their offensive output will be pretty close over the next 4 years, so that's a more efficient contract.

Fair and I completely agree.

I'm not sure what this actually means, as he's contracted in Sweden until the end of 2023/24

You can buyout those contracts and what not.

It sounds like he'll stay in the SHL for the season regardless.

My prediction?

Don't look for any recycled old/big names to come here. They will be on the periphery and avoiding bidding wars. I think they have a few targets they feel pretty comfortable that they will sign at or near league minimum, but it won't be Strome/Domi types. Name recognition alone insures they will get decent contracts outside of what the Leafs could do.....and frankly, they are better off for it.

A couple of under the radar type of signings I would like to see.

Chris Tierney - he has bounceback potential as a #3C. Still only 28.

ZAR - gives a motor for the 4th line. Makes a lot of contact.

Top ten goalies (min 1000 minutes) with the best D (xGA) in front of them last season:
1. Hill
2. Swayman
3. Elliot
3. Talbot
5. Ullmark
6. Markstrom
6. Grubauer
8. Oettinger
9. Campbell
10. Jarry
10. Vlader
10. Mrazek

Hill kinda scares me with him being at the top of this list although he is younger.

The ten goalies (min 1000 minutes) with the worst D (xGA) in front of them last season:

56. Comrie
57. Gibson
58. Greiss
59. Hellebuyck
60. Wedgewood
61. Murray
62. Montembault
63. Allen
64. Vejmelka
65. Korpisalo

Yea, maybe look at grabbing Comrie who had excellent numbers with crap D in front of him last season. The fact he's near the bottom of this list and threw up a .920 last year means he is still a gamer for sure.

Holy, they must have really high hopes for this kid as there was no great rush to sign him.

Doesn't it burn a contract slot to loan a player out and he has a 2 year deal in Sweden. So, they wasted a contract spot for the next 2 years to have him play in Sweden. Then, for year 3 he comes over? Why would you do that?

Players I'd like the leafs to target.
Zar 1.5 x 2 ( 4th line LW or RW)
Johan Larsson 1.6 x 2 ( 4th line C)
Kubalik 2.75 x 3 ( 2nd line LW)
Marchment 3.75 x 4 ( 2nd line LW)
Manson if we move Muzzin 3.5 x 4 ( top 4 RD)
Comrie 1.8 x 2 ( Back up goalie)
Howden 2 x 2 ( 3rd line C)
Acciari 1.3 x 2 ( 4th line LW)
Samsonov 2.8 x 3 ( tandem 1b goalie)
Gudbranson 2.5 x 3 ( Bottom pair RD)

Trade options
Roy
Blackwood
Lindholm ( Calgary)
Tanev ( Calgary)
Miller ( Vancouver)
Brown (Ottawa)
Watson ( Ottawa)
Demelo ( Winnepeg)
