Yeah I'd be a lot more bearish on them with those adds, especially because their defense is such a massive weakness and Weegar is great. I'm not crazy about DJ Smith either.
weegar got exposed so bad in the playoffs, he was so bad

Dorion traded Gustafsson, Murray, a 3rd, a 7th, and got back 35 year old pending UFA Talbot while retaining $1.6 million.

Dubas traded nothing for Murray with 25% retained, a 3rd, a 7th.

Anyone who frames this as a win for Dorion is being irrational and not looking at the evidence. It's not a "big win" for Dubas as he didn't use his full leverage - everyone knows that. But it's not a loss.
you are missing the value of cap space and you are certain murray is going to be a 1g. You are also not taking into account that this cap space will allow dorion to sign guys like g. So i disagree. Anyone who frames this trade as not a win for dorion is not looking at the bigger picture.

I think Samsonov is worth the risk. Guy has the skill but just hasn’t put it together. Maybe he never does but worth the gamble in a platoon situation with Murray.
I bet on Samsonov's pedigree every time. Goalies can be late bloomers.

Same here.

I think the Leafs probably take the bet on him and then look to invite a veteran or insurance on a PTO for training camp.

Renaud thinks Leafs and Samsonov are linked. Leafs are looking for a goaltender.

25 year old goalie posted a .912 save % in his 5 games in the playoffs last season, upside still remains he's young, not a bad idea to backup.

My fingers are still crossed for Blackwood though but there is nothing out there indicating he's even an option lol

Ottawa got like 500k in cap space when all is said and done?

It's not like he was a high draft pick who then struggled at multiple levels after being drafted (e.g. Fucale). Samsanov was dominant in the KHL for three straight years before coming over, so he's certainly shown an ability to excel in one of the top professional men's leagues in the world.

Same. Not to mention I think some goalies struggle with bad defenses in front of them, while others (like Andersen, Helley, Shesty) can actually help and increase their focus being busy with chances against all game.

Samsonov clearly struggled getting beat the shit out of, so let's see what happens coming to a top-10 team defense team with new goalie coaches in his ear.

they shed 4.6m in cap. \what they did with the cap after shouldnt be taken into consideration.
okay, then view the deals seperately, they shed 4.6, but also took on a 3.7 million backup goalie and have 1.6 in dead cap.

Will be interesting to see how much the Leafs have allocated to our backup. Not getting Dorion to retain 50% might take us out of the Samsonov sweepstakes.
