Murray/Samsonov has excellent upside as a tandem, very happy with that.

We all know the Murray trade wasn't good, but this is as good of an outcome we could've hoped for to pair with him.

Correct. And being unhappy with a deal doesn't make it a loss. It just means we as fans are not happy that the Leafs didn't use/apply more leverage. Anyone and everyone can be unhappy with that fact, but it doesn't make the trade a "loss".

It's like being unhappy finding a $10 bill on the sidewalk, because it appeared to be a $100 bill at first glance.
