Looking at it from a 40,000 foot view, Ottawa did an awful lot of manoeuvring and spent quite a lot in assets to arguably be no better off in goal and not much cheaper either.

I don’t like Talbot either but whether Ottawa made a good decision or if Toronto made the right gamble may have a big impact on the Atlantic.

im more optimistic at our Goaltending this year, than last thats for sure! Bounce Back!
Yeah, I was never against Murray the G. If (BIG if) he can stay relatively healthy, he has cup winning pedigree.

Add a change of scenery candidate like Samsonov, and suddenly things look better - no Mrazek. LOL

I'm hoping its a multi year contract and not a one and done because I think he can be really good.
I'd guess/hope so...unless he thought he'd be stuck behind Murray. Can't imagine he'd sign here at all if that were the case though. Curious to see the AAV.

I am not happy with him.. but I generally like your opinion, so open-minded now, why do you like it so much?
Firstly Samsonov's pedigree is absolutely insane. He and the two other Russian's (Shesty/Sorokin) all came up at the same time and looked like all were going to be elite #1 goalies. Samsonov is just getting into prime goalie age too where guys start to figure it out. We know nothing about goalies, but his low danger and medium danger sv% are fine too, but he got absolutely blown up on HD chances which crushed his overall numbers (2nd worst of 34 guys who played 2000+ mins). I'm hoping the Leafs as they're a better defensive team than Washington can help clean it up, and a different goalie coach can speak sweet nothings in his ears to help him reach his potential.

Interesting, thanks for that. Knowing that he only has had issues with HDC is a relief.

Concerning thing for me is that HD chances are the most repeatable skill, at least from the stuff I've read.

Still definitely worth the gamble for me because of the pedigree.

Yeah it's concerning, but there isn't a Shesty, Sorokin, or Helley available. For me, you take the gamble on massive upside and hope your new goalie coach can help tick up the HDsv% to league average numbers while improving the LD/MD from average to above.

not sure why leafs fans are all giggity about samsonov

25 year old unproven goalie at NHL level, U 90 games under his belt
with mediocre stats, horrible play-offs stats.

Does win games in the regular season however and that's the key.

That said. Toronto, the hottest pressure cook pot of the NHL,

Samsonov went to the NHL with insane expectations
is yet to match, now has to do it for the Leafs?
i-dunno-about-that

Time will tell but, Ilya Samsonov as the starter for the Leafs
if i was a Leafs fan, i wouldn't be throwing my hat up in the air
sounds a lot like Jack Campbell start of his career.

Ya he is a nice extremely down to earth guy, talked about lots of the features he was thinking of when the website was still in concept. Was very cool seeing him on major sports TV programs and stuff doing interviews.

Ya its interesting to see how they are evolving the site away from pure cap numbers to a more encompassing hockey resource. I thought the armchair GM feature was a really cool one.
