This was the biggest band aid move in NHL History. I hope Huberdeau can pull of the Kawhi Leonard run. Because If I'm him I am looking to play where I want to as a UFA.

I will not be surprised if Huberdeau becomes a UFA and signs elsewhere; however, I suspect Calgary is willing to offer him a VG contract to stay there. Plus Calgary will be able to use the salary & cap space that was previously allocated to Gaudreau & Tkachuk to add some VG players including Huberdeau. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Columbus essentially choosing Gudbranson over Bjorkstrand is going to look brutal really fast. They'd have been better off trying to move Nyquist. Bjorkstrand broke out offensively last year and is very good defensively. If we didn't get Cat and Giroux, i'd have loved to acquire someone like him.

I expect Montreal to do something very stupid.

Chychrun is the best option. I bet the price has gone up quite a bit with less and less RD available.

Maybe something like:
Formenton
Thomson/JBD
Wash 2nd 2024 (Acquired Connor trade)
Ottawa 2nd (2025)

For
Chychrun
Zaitsev (1 mill retained/year)

would need minimum of one first included i think

I agree, but I'm sure they thought of that and tried to move Nyquist. Sometimes its hard to do something like this, especially when it's obvious what needs to be done.

takes out 2nds, put in 1st

take out formenton, put in greig

Really hoping Dorion turns off vacation mode this week and deals for a dman from Calgary, seeing as they have a plethora of them now.

As it stands we still have a non-playoff level backend, and options are dwindling fast.

Ya. I like it. At the very least at the deadline they can get a couple 1st rounders and a couple prospects for Huberdeau and Weegar. Even more if they agree to a contract with the team being traded to.

Thomson will be better than Chychrun. Not to mention, we have a plethora of LD. We are in need of RD.

We need to add 1 top 4 RD and trade Zaitsev. We could add a top 4 by signing Klingberg as a UFA and I hope we could trade Zaitsev with a 2nd round pick to get him off the books.

At this point team rosters are kind of set, Kadri and Klingberg are still out there so there is the potential that a roster or two gets shaken up a bit, but I think most GMs are in "let's see what happens" mode.

I wouldn't be surprised if we start the season with our roster as-is and the hope is something happens somewhere (injury, a team underperforming) and we can find a way to pry a RD out of it.

I think Calgary is going to make a push for Kadri.

That first sentence is something, and may turn out to be an HFboards all timer
I'm making a projection here. You're talking about a veteran player with umpteen seasons in the NHL versus a prospect. I project that Thomson turns out to be the better player long term, when you average out their time in the NHL.

Ok. Fair enough. Thomson isn’t that much young tho. But we will see
