Isn't Tanev still injured? They may wait and see what happens before trading one of them.

My thinking as well. Although reports have it he isn't interested in coming here.

CGY stacked on RD now, gotta think we'd be able to get one out of there.

If the price isn't massive I'd throw a similar package at Weegar as the Devils did at Marino and hopefully he changes his mind about re-signing after he gets familiar with the team.

So yeah, getting pretty worried our defense is going to remain sub-par going into this season.

That aside, feel bad for Huberdeau. That's a raw deal for him.

Is this a joke? Tkachuk has 15 points in 27 career playoff games.

Dude has been as big of a choker as they come.
almost ppg last years playoffs.

Huberdeau had 5 points coming off 115 point reg season and his team got embarrassed.

Matt's coming into his own only 24 and maturing.

Maybe he wants to go home, which would make this trade lack luster for Calgary IMO.

I like Tavev if he's fully heathy.

I highly doubt Huberdeau wants to go to Montreal. Most superstars hailing from Quebec would rather avoid that kind of attention, especially considering the Habs are heading into a rebuild, so the timing also doesn't make sense.

This is unequivocally good for the Sens prospect of getting a RHD.

Florida has no room to sign him any of the RHD and Calgary is now tripping over themselves with RHD. More RHD are going on the market and there is less places for them, there's a good chance that could drive the price down. Even if it isn't Weegar, Tanev Rasmussen, etc... we target, as long as Calgary trades a RHD somewhere else, that's one less space for a guy like Klingberg, and one less customer for other guys we're targeting.

That's possible, but they could also just shift Zadorov or Kylington to RD until Tanev is back.

Hanifin - Andersson
Kylington - Zadorov
Valimaki - Meloche
Mackey

Maybe they trade Kylington instead. I don't know how much of a fan Sutter is of his game.

I think that's little overreacting 10 points in 12 games not amazing but wouldn't call it crap.
Against edmonton he was invisible 90 percent of the time. He had a hat trick in game 1, then 1 more point the entire series.

No offence from your 100 point player in games 2, 3, 4 = bad news imo.

Edit, i still like the player though

Just realized Huberdeau is almost 30 and going to want a long term deal. Similar situation with Weegar actually. I'm sure they would have liked to stay in Florida but Florida didn't want to give them a long term deal.

So while the trade does make Florida much worse right now, it does make much more sense for them. I had no idea Huberdeau was that "old".

Also, Calgary is about to have 9 defensemen on one-way contracts.

Even if Tanev is injured to start the season and they go with 8 defensemen to start, one is almost certainly leaving.

We also have to consider that Mangiapane and Kylington contracts are going to eat up a good chunk of their remaining cap space.

Matt is like 5 years younger give or take probably the reason why FLA had to give up Weegar, the 1st and prospect.

Calgary is now in an absolutely perfect position to start a rebuild and they probably should.

They should also trade Tanev to us. Hopefully.

Florida dumped two older soon-to-be UFAs they didn't want to keep.

This is actually not that bad a trade for Florida from the perspective of keeping their window open for as long as possible. It makes them worse now but could make them better in the long-run.
