Florida's defense is somehow worse than ours now even with Zaistev...

ekblad/montour/forsling/gudas/sjalin/carlsson/staal

like what is that haha

Calgary is now in an absolutely perfect position to start a rebuild and they probably should.

They should also trade Tanev to us. Hopefully.

Florida dumped two older soon-to-be UFAs they didn't want to keep.

This is actually not that bad a trade for Florida from the perspective of keeping their window open for as long as possible. It makes them worse now but could make them better in the long-run.
They won't rebuild just yet. The fans here will be pissed if they try. We may be able to snag Tanev though.

I honestly question how much worse this makes them now even. The d definitely takes a hit but they're a lot tougher to play against up front now.

I think they'll finish with less points in the regular season but make it to the conference finals.

Can people stop saying Weegar has no interest in playing in Ottawa lol. It's complete 110% false.

Flames now have Weegar, Tanev, and Rasmus Andersson on RD.

I'd be over the moon with any one of them here. C'mon Pierre! Keep the summer vibes vibing!

Yea seriously I am late to this but god damn they do not need all 3 of those guys on RD and should promptly give us literally any one of them.

Why would we trade for an injured defenseman that is expected to return no sooner than late November? Our season can be lost by then, we are not risking that.

Guys, if Batherson is in the clear, we legit have a good shot at the playoffs next season.

Boston is banged up for the first few months. Florida replaced their second best forward at the cost of their second best defenseman.

This could happen. Pray past Batherson didn't do something terrible and this team could do damage.

Im as big a Tanev fan as can be as a Sens + Canucks fan and would sign him as a free agent in a second. But I’d be very wary of trading significant assets for him. He carried the defense on the Canucks for years and it took a permanent toll. This latest surgery is not good news. If he’s fully healthy at the deadline maybe but I don’t think he’s a long term solution at this point in his career.

Guys rmr that weegar can play the left side like he has with ekblad

I wonder if this trade opens the flood gates again. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Calgary sign Kadri now either.

I predict in the league:

Kadri signs in Calgary
Tarasenko traded to the islanders
Klingberg signs with Ottawa
More cap clearing trades

I dont see a better spot for Klingberg than Ottawa tbh

Everyone says we need a defensive dman but all last season nobody else could actually pass a puck or breakout other than Chabot

Zub is elite defensively, Sanderson is labelled that as well.

Obviously a two way d would be best like Chychrun but the assets to acquire scares me

We should be able to get a defence first dman at the deadline regardless

If klingberg signs with ottawa who does he play with?

Chabot Klingberg
Branny//Sandy Zub
Holden Hamonic//zaitsev

Or

Chabot Zub
Branny//Sandy Klingberg
Holden Hamonic//zaitsev

Or

Chabot Klingberg
Holden Zub
Branny//Sandy Hamonic//Zaitsev

Well yeah the likes of Josh Brown, Hamonic and Zaitsev aren’t amazing puck-movers but we have a ton of guys now or very close that can move the puck. JBD, Thomson, Brannstrom and Sanderson are all good puck-movers with varying offensive abilities obviously. We have very little physicality on the backend and not as much size as you’d want, as Brann/JBD/Lassi are small-average, and it’s not like Chabot and Klingberg play that type of game.

In a perfect world, we could use a player with size, a great shot and that plays physical on our back-end. Having said that, there just aren’t many options. I’d do Klingberg on a short-term deal but I doubt he takes that, and long-term I think he’s redundant for the above reasons.

Yeah I’d prefer that type of dman, but Chychrun is the only one available.

Maybe Tanev now but he’s injured until December.
