Pretty much perfect scoreboard last night. Caps win, Penguins and Rangers get blown out, NJD Carolina and Boston lose

Not that’s we need other teams to lose to help us because (a) we are handling our own business, and (b) The gap is just too much for these teams to make up.

what we need are some bubble teams to lose quickly so there are more sellers. That said, if there is not much more movement because teams want to fight for a spot, then that favors us because we don’t need to make a move.

11pts north of everyone else in the conference, and with games on hand over most of them (save Toronto, who is 12 back).

It’s certainly possible that the team could have a messy 10-12 game stretch, and bring some teams back into the top seed race. 100% plausible even.

However it’s definitely their race to lose, at the moment.

12 points is a massive gap in the NHL. Would take 12 games of 500 hockey from us and a 12 game win streak from Toronto to tie. Only 25ish games left, it would require a pretty massive collapse to loose the conference.

The only real question is whether we can keep ahead of WPG for the President's Trophy. For most contending teams I think it doesn't really matter, but I really want us to get it this year.

For me it doesn't matter if they miss out on the President's Trophy - as long as Carberry wins the coach of the year award. At this stage you'd have to think he is the clear favorite.

Like I said. It’s theirs to lose. But cannot be cocky about it 😁

I would take either of them on my team any day of the week. They play aggressive and tough, and I admire that. I have more issue with guys like Marchant who I consider more of a cheap shot artist.
I don't like Marchand either and I wouldn't want him on the Caps team.

Plenty of heart and soul players around the league. I just don't like the Tkachuks but from seeing all the 4Nations posts in here during the USA vs Canada games I already know I'm in the minority and that's ok. Can't always agree on things :DD

And howzabout a round of applause for Winnipeg? The upturn in quality in WPG, OTT, Utah, BUF, etc. is SO good for the league as a whole. No joke organizations puts the NHL on par with the NFL in showing the world how a pro sports league should run. Real parity, real proof from the foundation up that they want a top-quality product on the ice in every city, every night.

Yea with Meruelo and Melnyk gone there really are no true awful owners left. I do think though that with the cap rising we're going to go back to seeing a bit more separation between the serious owners and the unserious owners. Good for the Caps because Leonsis is IMO a serious owner, probably bad for the league as a whole

Oh I’m the opposite. I went them to win it badly. It’s a “marker”, and it doesn’t preclude them from winning anything.

It’s a myth, that needs to be broken again. It’s due time for another Prez Trophy to win.

Why not us?
Yes.

In 2018, the Caps had to beat the Pens to win the Cup. This year, if they are to win, they should have to beat the real final boss: the "curse" of the President's Trophy.
