  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Retain 50% on both tank and chychrun (if we have the slots). Listen on norris but dont do anything unless a good offer arises. Offer Brann a tiny 2-3 year deal. If he wont take it move him at the deadline. Move kubalik

Take back dead weight expiring cap. Maximize those returns.

Target top-45 picks and later round guys that are showing some early AHL success as prospects. Paul and Crookshank would have been good examples in our own system. Those guys are worth more than picks outside of the top 2 rounds. Then be patient.

And go get CBrown back at bottom six dollars and use macewen as our 13th forward. Ultimate buy low. He'll bounce back. I'm sure of it.

in the offseason, target a middle six and top 4 RHD. If we can get a 4c upgrade on kastelic somehow, do it.

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Giroux
Greig - Norris - Batherson
Joseph - Pinto - ????????
Kelly - Kastelic - MacEwen
Crookshank

Sanderson - Zub
Chabot - ????????
Kleven - JBD/Hamonic
Hamonic/JBD

Korpisalo
Forsberg/Sogaard

If Pinto gets 2.5M, Kelly gets 1.2M, Crookshank gets 0.8M and we retain 2.3M on Chychrun's deal, that leaves us with about 10.5M for a good middle 6 winger and a 2nd pairing RD.

No cap crunch there.
Here is your roster with cap hits inserted into a spreadsheet.

To make your ideas work, the Senators will need to pay the 3rd line winger a maximum of $3 m (Joseph's cap hit is $2.95 m for reference), and the RD a maximum of $6.5 m. With this in mind, you are under cap by $200. NOTE - The numbers I am mentioning in this paragraph are selected to demonstrate where the upper boundaries or constraints are.

I guess the question is how well Grieg will perform as a 2nd line winger. I guess it's a relative thing, i.e., how much better or worse would Grieg be versus Tarasenko? On this subject, I am not making a determination. I'm just asking a question that needs to be asked.

Wouldn't we be on the hook for Connor Brown's bonus? He's past 10 games, so he's hit the big one to make 4mil.

You are easily baffled, i am sure. You do have to remember, it is a small town and getting quality writers must be hard.

His time as the Post Media sports guys is winding down. I hear he is going to have a big retirement party with all his detractors. ;)
Small town - LOL. Not sure about the "quality writers" bit either. Earl McRae (a former acquaintance, RIP) says hello.

There is no incentive for Edmonton to trade Connor Brown. No, he's not the scorer he was when he was here, but he is still probably better than whatever option they have to replace him in their bottom 6.

Since his bonus is already paid, it is a sunk cost. His cap hit is league minimum.

That's an understatement. And I say this a bit in jest because of the injury, but he's failed to register a single goal since leaving Ottawa. 4 assists in 43 games is it.

I do agree though, not the player Edmonton would look to move. Buddies with McD and solid defensively even if he can't contribute much offensively anymore. If anything, they'll add to their bottom 6.

Somewhere between B and C if I had to guess. Just curious how close he is to typical retirement age.

Interesting, did not know that. is followed by

We need to dump salary the rest of this season or we may wind up having a bonus overage from Sanderson which would apply against next year’s cap.

I was thinking of getting him as a UFA in the offseason.

How does he have a caphit that doesn't include his bonuses? I've never understood these rules.

He has a performance bonus, not a signing bonus. They apply at seasons end, they'll be dinged next year
Okay gotcha. Same as for the ELC type bonuses that the younguns hit, yeah?

But what stops teams from abusing the shit out of this to go over the cap? Mcdavid 10M performance bonus if he hits 3 goals, for example.

They should probably trade 2 or 3 guys (Tarasenko, Kubalik, Brannstrom) at the deadline for picks or prospects & look to fill holes & needs in free agency over the summer & a couple internally. Hopefully, they get a player out of the draft who is close to being NHL ready & could be ready sooner rather than later. I assume they will likely make a decision on Chabot versus Chychrun over the summer whether to trade one or keep both.

It's Thomson, not Thompson. Pretty sad that you can't remember the name of a first round pick who has been in the organization for many years now.

He did play for the Ducks. Had two giveaways that led to goals and was put back on waivers shortly after.

So if Anaheim, the furthest team in the league from Ottawa geographically, is not a change of scenery where would be?

Something big brewing, will be an exciting trade deadline for us. Goodbyes set to bring in new blood.

Tanev i think is gonna be too expensive and I don't know we would get the best Tanev. Not sure we are the place to inspire great beastly Tanev.

Staois got to make a splash though if he wants to create a legacy.

Seems like we've reached the point in his career where he no longer fits the longterm plans here. Would make the most sense to trade him and recoup some sort of asset.
Ya I think so too. I'm not grossly opposed to keeping him if that's what they decide, but contract status is a factor too being arbitration eligible, and from my understanding, won't be high enough to walk away from should we want to.
