It also happened to be the team they are fighting for the last division spot. Nice to see Tampa crap all over them.

Ottawa is in tough with a few teams at the back door. If/when they miss the playoffs this season, I won't feel sorry.

I am as big a Gretzky fan as there is, and I did wish his goal record would stand. But at this point, I'm looking forward to Ovechkin breaking it, whether it be some time this season, or early next. To be able to see a record like that fall not just once, but twice in one's lifetime, which will span 30+ years, is pretty special in my opinion.

Interesting early returns.

Necas has 3 goals and 8 points in 7 games, while Rantanen is 1 and 2 for 2 points in 6.

Way too early to make an educated assessment but possibly Col had figured out Rantanen without Mack is not a 13-14 million guy

Colorado's system is built around speed, which Necas excels at with a 98th percentile skating speed (Rantanen bottom 3rd in the league). He also carries play into the offensive zone a lot better than Rantanen. His transition game is elite

Just seems like a great fit in Colorado

Not the insane trade by the Avs people thought it was. Proactive move, people really slept on Necas.

Feels like Rantanen isn't taking to Carolina in the early going. I'm guessing he's going to be in a state of shock from being moved like that and I suspect the Canes won't get optimal use out of him.

Tons of people thought it was a bad trade all around for the Avs. You don't have to look too far on HF to find them.

Right now, the way I think of it is like this:

1) Rantanen on the Avalanche
2) Necas on the Avalanche
3) Necas on the Hurricanes
4) Rantanen on the Hurricanes

Obviously, rating this trade today is kind of premature.

I hope it works out poorly for the 'Canes ... just because they're an eastern team, and anything that weakens the competition in the east is okay with me.

I wouldn't read too much into this season vis a vis Rantanen vs Necas, but I am curious as to how this plays out for the two teams in the long term.

Rantanen isn't looking good without Nate .
Seems like they are having a hard time signing him , shocking.
