Shhh don’t tell the ducks boards, theyll claim a broken foot as injury prone

don't get why they haven't retired giguere's # yet. he should've had his retired before niedermayer
I agree, I figure getz and perry would get retired together or something

But kinda surprised jiggy hasn’t already gotten retired…. The least we could do is give him a statue

Just like Kelser saying the injuries didn't bother him much while playing with a broken hip for his last two seasons with the Ducks. Nah... there was no drop in play for Kelser's last two seasons with the Ducks.
His problem was far far different, and easy target for the opponents.

Not really a comparable situation.

the weird thing is how gibson always wore #35 throughout his youth/junior career but switched to 36 when he got to the big club. so have they been planning to retire it for almost a decade now and just haven't? i don't get it

The only thing I wonder is if they were either holding it out of respect or just fence sitting for a bit when Gibson came up. It seemed like forever at the time but Gibby turned pro just 3 years after the Giguere trade. Wouldn’t explain why they haven’t assigned it recently, although it’s also just possible they haven’t had a goalie who’s wanted it since.

They also could’ve just changed their mind. At the time it made sense why they didn’t give out 35 or 27, Teemu had to be first in the rafters, but maybe since they’ve realized their criteria for a number retirement should be pretty stringent and now that they’re looking at 5 slam dunk cases it’s best to keep it that way.

I feel like Giguere was more of a slam dunk that Neidermyer tbh..... you could argue giguere should have 2 conn smythes in an Anaheim jersey.

I get why it wasn’t, Niedermayer’s in the hall and Jiggy isn’t and that’s not a bad standard to have. And if that’s part of it, it also makes sense why they’d switch up.

Nieds apparently had to go up for Kariya to agree to it, too, but obviously they were thinking about it well before that.

To me there is a special place for elite players who helped the team win its "First" cup. Giguere was elite in his prime and while not a HOFer he should get it retired. He gave it his all every game and didn't coast it in on cruise control like Gibson/Bobrovsky do.

Regarding Jiggy, there are multiple possibilities as to why 35 isnt hanging just yet.

1) Maybe the Organization offered and he turned it down from some reason
2) Maybe they are waiting for a specific date that holds meaning
3) Possible that the Ducks just didnt want to go on a retirement spree. You hadnt retired a number ever and then it was PK, Selanne and Nieds all really close together. Maybe they wanted to let that group stand on their own for a bit before they started the next batch?
4) You also had the Covid years which they probably didnt want to do it during that period due to attendance and wanting to give proper respect.

Youve had multiple goalies come through the organization that at one point prior to being here wore 35 (I believe there were 2 guys + Gibson. I know Toskala was 1). Its seems obvious that it was being held out of rotation due to respect/plans to do something with it.

I've been thinking the last year or two that the club is waiting for Perry to retire to then institute a ring of honor or something.

The initial class will be Teemu, PK, Scotty, Getz and Pears. Then we'll see Jiggy and Beauch inducted. Jiggy's will include his number retirement.

His wife’s sister had moved there a little while ago. Has kids the same age. Just a family decision. No conspiracies
Heard some interesting tid bits this weekend from close peeps on this. RG will back and forth between here and Nashville, as he will be working with the Ducks in some capacity soon. Vague but true

Ive been a fan of the Ring of Honor for a while. I think there are plenty of guys who would be good for the Ring that wouldnt necessarily rise to the level of having a number retired. Perry and Beauch are great guys for the Ring but not number retirement.

I just saw him at a farmers market a month or so ago. I really wanted to go ask him about it but he had his kids, so I just let him be. I heard the same thing though that he will be getting announced either player dev or coaching in some regard.

Perry I think is a lock for having his number retired and he deserves it. I believe he’s the only Duck to ever win a major individual award(not including the Smythe) and he’s one of the best RWs of his generation. It’s only maybe a question if he doesn’t get into the hall but I suspect that’s gonna happen too.

That’s part of the reason why it’s maybe a little tougher to retire 35. You’re already looking at 5 retired from the first 30 years with a nonzero chance there’s going to be more coming from this next era. Gotta draw a line somewhere.
