Good to hear, I watched some of that game, thought he looked worse than I remember him playing last year and changed to a different game. I've been really down on Chytil. I thought he had a pretty lousy rookie tourny, and hasn't looked great in camp. He went from being a player I thought could be a darkhorse calder contender to someone I thought wouldn't even crack the lineup. Hope he can figure things out in the next couple of weeks.
How would he not even crack our lineup? He’s still our best prospect and nothing has changed, seems like you’re only basing this off of Traverse City (which he was more good than bad in) and the first half of today’s preseason game

Not even looking at lineups, just players,

Zibby, Kreider, Zucc, Buch, Hayes, Name, Spooner, Vesey, Fast -- 3 spots left (2 if you count Mcleod - who probably slots into this lineup on the 4th line) with Andersson, Meskanen, Lindqvist, Lettieri, Nieves to compete with. In April I would have penned Chytil into the lineup. I don't think it's necessarily a given right now because I don't feel like he took a big enough step to think he's guaranteed anything. He can still make it, but right now I actually have the older prospects ahead of him for this years roster. I thought Meskanen, Lindqvist, and Lettieri have looked better. There's also players like Beleskey who've looked okay so far. I don't even mind that scenario either with expansion looming, and if he can't carve out a top 6 spot.

Making snap judgements off of a prospects tournament seems like an awfully terrible way to come to a conclusion on any player.

I dont know where you heard that Chytil has had a poor camp, most of the reports have stated that he's been one of the best players at camp and had a very strong finish to the game tonight.

Poor camp?

I said it before the game. He was put with two anchors, Vesey and Namestnikov.

Quinn switched his line mates to Buchnevich and Spooner. First shift he scores, and he was much better the rest of the game not having to play with the anchors.

Everyone should relax. If we put him with Zucc and Spooner on the second line in the regular season, he'll do well.

he's a pretty dynamic kid who can create a chance out of thin air. pretty high on him as a Ranger fan. I can't even begin to remember the last time they had a homegrown center prospect like him.

Chytil is going to 100% be in the lineup opening night. No friggin doubt.

Calling Namestnikov an anchor is most likely a stretch

Yeah, calling Namestnikov an anchor is ridiculous. He's a really solid player, had good underlying numbers way before be played with Kutcherov.
Indeed, he is a great "3rd player" on a line. Drives possession but can't generate offence by himself in the NHL.

Vesey on the other hand is basically the Platonic form of a possession-anchor.

From memory Namestnikov looked great in Coreys microstats tracking too? gets the puck out of the zone and into the attacking zone well.

Aside from the half season on a line with Stamkos and Kucherov, he's averaged 31 points per 82 games in the NHL. Thats not a great 3rd line player. Thats a 9th forward, at best.

Also, I said he's a great 3rd player on a line - not a great 3rd line player. I.E. he can ride shotgun and drive possession without drying up the offence of a line, but he can't provide offence to a line that lacks it. And FWIW his 5v5 scoring rates have been ~2nd-line level even without Stamkos/Kucherov.

Sorry, I misread that.

Anyway, I don't think I'm wrong in saying that the totality amounts to about a 9th forward. He's not particularly good offensively or defensively. He can skate and he has some skill, but low IQ, not physical or gritty, pretty generic hockey player.

On the brighter side...at least we have coach now that tries out oddball line combos in pre-season, not after a specific line carries the team for 5 wins in a row unlike a certain recent coach.

For a rookie who needs to have his confidence boosted? I think it is. Your rookies should not have to be the best player on their line. If they are, they are either a star in the league already or you are doing something wrong with your line combinations.
Kotkaniemi played with Deslaurier and Suzuki played with Agostino and Mccaron

I think you dont know what anchor means

Anyone else starting to realize how good the 2017 draft is likely gonna turn out to be?

Wow
