OT: Consolidated Entertainment Thread (TV, movies, books, games) part VI - use spoiler tags!

I was gonna go see this in Red Bank if it had good reviews but apparently it was so bad that they canceled the entire tour just 4 cities in. Apparently it was almost more of a comedy somehow instead of a horror which you can see on the website doesn't mention anything about that

So a sequel of sorts as a stage play? The constant harping in that article of the price for the tickets is petty and suggests that if they paid $20 a seat they'd have been happy. I'm sure it wasn't good but other than a couple of anecdotal generalizations how can you even know? Interesting idea at least. Pity is wasn't good.

I saw this comment on Reddit about it when I was looking for reviews and it really does sound pretty bad. It's just odd they would go the comedy route when Blumhouse was one of the producers and the website mentions it's going to be scary

It is such a great book. Jazz hands!
Have you happened to have read We Are Legion (We are Bob)? I just started that audiobook because it was so highly rated and also narrated by Ray Porter. It was published in 2017 and the Chapter 2 reveal of what happened while he was in cryo-stasis feels awfully familiar and too real right now. *nervous chuckle*

I did the audio books for the whole series, except for the most recent.

Overall, I enjoyed the series a lot. There are some parts that are better or worse but I’m still liking enough that I’ll pick up the recent book.

Good to hear. It feels like (I'm only 3 chapters in) that it's very much lighter on the nitty gritty of the tech and more about moving the story along without stopping too much to explain details. I'm ok with that - seems to have the same good wit as Hail Mary but less brainpower required which is good when I'm trying to work and listen at the same time. Hail Mary had sections where I was like wait, what and had to rewind to pick up the nuance of what the tech jargon was telling me.

Agreed, the books tend to stay more about the philosophy and vibes of the science rather than the mechanics. Not that they never discuss the mechanics but it stays at an executive style level.

Best epic fantasy series ever. They are long but the world, characters, and stories are so unique and interesting. You really get so immersed in the story.

Cool, I had just picked up Oynx Storm from the library, it's the 3rd book of the Fourth Wing series, it's sorta like hunger games meets Harry Potter meets divergent but with dragons. If you like any of those I recommend it but the writing is definitely nothing super amazing but I liked the first two books.

I'm a fast reader when I find the time but been super busy lately but from now till the next home game on March 7th I have nothing to do so if I get through this one quickly, it's a bit over 500 pages I'll try to get to way of the kings next.

The Red rising series is another set of books in my library list too.

I love red rising too. I'm only 2 books in but it is so cool. I love it's theme + scifi to it.

Cross on Amazon I’ve really enjoyed. I have about 1.5 episodes left to see if they stick the landing.

It’s a good Murder/Mystery Cop/Detective drama with a serial killer on the loose.

Anyone read any good books lately?
My favorite audio book lately was Dungeon Crawler Carl and my favorite physical book was Battlemage Farmer. Honorable mention to Oh, Great! I was Reincarnated as a Farmer. (This book led me into the battlemage book).

My reading has been looking at pretty pulpy so those are all in the broad litrp category. They’re all trying to be funny in their own way and poking fun/homage at different tropes.

Recursion - fantastic sci fi thriller

The Humans by Haig - funny but serious

If you want a really funny book, I can't recommend 'A Confederacy of Dunces' by John Kennedy Toole enough.

Or anything Kurt Vonnegut or Joseph Heller wrote.

I'm trying to get into classics. Especially since I'd like to one day go back for my degree. That is so broad that I have no idea where to really start though. I wanna eventually read all of Dostoevsky's works but that will mentally drain me.

I can barely get through a Grisham book without going 'okay, hurry it up here'.

Slaughterhouse Five is a true modern classic in my view. Confederacy of Dunces is still hugely popular here

I watched late night with the devil last night. Really enjoyed it...

The wife was in the background as a ghost in a bunch of scenes, this was really a revenge story to me. The husband did make a deal with a devil but it really did seem like he had absolutely no idea that it would cost him his wife.

I agree. I loved the movie. It was so much fun and so unqiue

That's a good movie. I enjoyed the James Randi wannabe character and they really captured the vibe of the 1970s.
