some posters just hate branny cause of his size
Dumb post. I’ve really liked his play over the last few months and project him on the team next season. I don’t think I’ve had a negative post about Brannstrom since before Christmas.

I legit don’t want to read Branny hate after last night. The only d man doing “anything”.

It’s not something you can do in the middle of the season. It needs a camp. Get chychrun and Branny on the third pair let the pairing with the guy on his offside dominate bottom 6 lines.

Difference of opinion I guess. I though Brannstrom was struggling on his offside. He has played quite well lately on his strong side and I personally found quite the drop off in form.

Helpful Hint on HFSens : play that tune from hinterland who's who. ( )

Approach criticizing Brannstom .. even if you compliment him along the way.... with caution..

This is truly pathetic. Unless he's got an injury flat out DJ didn't watch the last game. Brann was one fo the few who seemed to care against the Hawks and actually tried to do something about it.

There have been games this year for sure where you'd be inclined to think Brannstrom could use a night in the press box but last game? Nope.

So under appreciated…how on earth can anyone make the argument that Hamonic/Holden deserve to play over him? He’s probably been our best defensive defenceman this season. If he was 6’2” he'd be considered untouchable, even if that means almost nothing on the ice, he plays “harder” than Chabot at his diminutive size

Wow, so much hand wringing over Branstrom these days.

Wonder if Brown will make an impact in the bottom 6. Kelly was due to draw back in, Brass needs a rest as does Gauthier. Both have looked like they’re fading a bit. Brass for good reason, Goat because I guess he’s always been kind of just there, but fast.

I guess they want a more defensive and bigger look on D against Seattle.

Gotta beat those f***ers, hope Soogard is ready.

It's not specific to Brannstrom, it's about the coach and poor decision making.

Brannstrom has been very good defensively so your last part doesn't ring true.

Seattle also isn't a bruising team, they are speedy and get on the forecheck so we don't need size we need mobility and puck moving ability.

Terrible decision if he sits Brann.

There’s more!

Where are they getting these stats from? moneypuck says he's 50th among D in On-Ice xG%, behind both Chabot (6th) and Chychrun (42nd). He's also 49th in Corsi, again behind Chabot (9th) and Chychrun (32nd).

Also, can someone explain what these stats mean in the context of his actual performance? Why is there such a disconnect between how many points he has vs. what the advanced stats say he should have?

Likely natural stat trick, at 5v5, but outside of the xG and maybe HDCF, the numbers should be close to the same if not exactly regardless of you site since they are standardized metrics, xGF and HDCF have some different models depending on the site.

Money puck defaults to all situations, which given Brannstrom isn't on the PP much would negatively impact him. I suspect you were looking at that and not 5v5 given the numbers you presented

Seattle plays with a pretty relentless and physical forecheck. DJ, consistent with his philosophy from day 1, is sheltering Brannstrom from this if he is to pay the right side.

So I don't think the question is simply why is he out. The question should be why is Chychrun not slotting in on RD. But since Holden needs to play and since DJ is clearly assessing JC's utility on his strong side first, I don't think it is all as questionable as people are making it sound.

I'd like to see Brannstrom in but let's not act like there is no logic to all this.
