I think whenever JT Compher signs what will seem like overpayment for too many seasons, a 2 year commitment at reasonable AAV will be far more attractive to some.

Look at his money owed, aka his salary.
Not his SB
Not his AAV
True. Only a contender should be interested in him as a 3c and they should mainly care about fitting him under the cap. I was thinking he had 1 year left though. For 2 years salary and cap will be relevant.
In any event the only way he is not a cap dump is if he has a big 23-24 and some team is willing to take him at the trade deadline and hope he replicates that in 24-25.

They overpaid for him followed by his goal totals dropping and point totals stagnating or dropping and want to recoup their assets? He also has some trade protection kicking in to add insult to injury
Its kind of funny that he signed almost as big of a deal as Elias Lindholm just 1 year later than that Lindholm deal

For what Dvorak brings, his AAV is not reasonable at all. *maybe* if the Habs ate half of his contract, but at a hit of 4.45, that’s not a guy teams will line up for.

At best, someone would buy in on Dvorak's age and take him for next to nothing. More realistically, his value is probably negative.

His issue is that he's not good enough offensively to be an offensive 2C but not good enough defensively to be a defensive 3C. He's a decent 2-way center, but he's just not good enough at either end of the ice to actually fill a role that his ability would fit in. Combine that with his pretty hefty salary for what he provides and it's not a very valuable asset.
Basically a slightly above replacement level player making 4 mil

Well, once Compher has signed, I think Dvorak won't seem too bad. Likely too steep for what he brings to a contender constantly up against the cap, but some mid-level team will prefer 2x4.5 with Dvorak to 5x5 for Compher.

There’s a difference between simply signing a guy to a contract and having to give up Habs fans valuation of a player. Compher at 5 has zero acquisition cost, and a Cup ring and a 50 point season under his belt. Dvorak might get those things, but their value is not close until he does.

How much do fans from other fan bases feel Dvorak is worth via trade?
Negative asset.

He's a solid 3C who will put up 15 goals and 30-40 points. People saying negative value are off their rocker. It's not a lot of value but it isn't negative (I'm a Habs fan, but I'd guess he's worth a second)
Right its us not you. Hahaha a second...

40 pts two-way center who's good on faceoffs making 4M a year = trash
When was he a 40 point two way center?... He's never scored 40 points in a single season in his career. Slow, over paid 3rd line center. At best returns a similar type player. It won't cost much to unload him but no one is giving anything of value right now. Maybe next year at the deadline when he is about to be a UFA and Montreal retains.

He's litterally been on pace for 40+ pts in 3 of his last 4 seasons.

But I guess you want to argue sementics, just as about everytime I read anything on here. This board is a shithole.
I guess you don't understand what semantics means or how to spell it.

If you're so confident Dvorak is a 40pt player, then why don't we bet on it?

If he hits 40pts+ this upcoming season, then I quit HF. If he doesn't, you quit HF.

As a Habs fan I would hope for a third round pick back at this point. Ideally we can include as part of the PLD package. If we don't score PLD let Dvorak stay as our third line centre.
