There’s a difference between simply signing a guy to a contract and having to give up Habs fans valuation of a player. Compher at 5 has zero acquisition cost, and a Cup ring and a 50 point season under his belt. Dvorak might get those things, but their value is not close until he does.
yes because compher was a huge cog in the wheel there .

Stop with the worthless argument re pace. Pace is completely relevant if it spans years. If the reason for incomplete seasons is always injuries and it is unlikely the player is ever going to play a full season then it doesn't mean much.
GP pace matters. If you are expecting a full year out of him at this point you would have to be a fool.

? I am a Habs fan lmao nice try though - they don't need to but he has a very buyout friendly deal, is not good outside of 8-10 games a season and it would be better to have young guys in the lineup than him
if we were looking to compete soon but next year in his contract year he's more likely to produce and with 50% retention at the deadline he'll get a pick .

Tell me, what size cog would you speculate that Dvorak is, for a team about to pick 5th overall?

With so many valuable assets playing down the lineup, ones worth 2nd rounders or more like Dvorak and Edmundson, it’s really a wonder the Habs were as bad as they were.
it's just that we're in no rush to move him . next year at the deadline he'll get us something with retention

I’d be interested from NJ standpoint as a potential 3C if they plan to slot Haula back with Hughes & Bratt in a pseudo-centerman type role where they had success last season (as opposed to slotting him at 3C). Devils may also be looking for a bottom pair D as well. What about something like Sharangovich & Boqvist for Dvorak, Kovacevic & Pitlick (the latter more if they wanted to offload amother forward body with two coming back in the deal)?

He's a solid 3C who will put up 15 goals and 30-40 points. People saying negative value are off their rocker. It's not a lot of value but it isn't negative (I'm a Habs fan, but I'd guess he's worth a second)
There are no nhl teams that would give up a 2nd for this contract. None.

Dvorak good defensive 4th line center. Good in faceoffs. Just overpaid. A 2nd be typical return. Maybe a late first at deadline if Habs retain.
Not really. Compare him to a good 4th line center like Colton Sissons, who outdraws him by 1.5%ish, usually draws the toughest opposition assignments, only put up around 5 points less per season, and makes only 2.875M per year (and is still overpaid for a 4th line center). As a "good 4th line center" Dvorak is not just overpaid, but horrifically so.

FWIW the Preds have awful center depth on paper in Parssinen, Novak, Glass, Sissons, (Johansen), and plenty of cap room, and I couldn't see us giving up more than a mid-late pick at best for Dvorak, if that. I don't see much of a market for him other than a contender trying to add depth at the deadline.

Dvorak at 50% retained (2.225 AAV) is probably worth a fair bit to a contender for a 3C. Especially if you get in on him now, versus waiting until next year when he's sure to post bigger numbers to try and get a bigger contract in Free Agency and the rental amount will be higher than it is now.

Leads the league in Zero Smiles/60

Dude scored a hat trick this year and I thought maybe then but still looked like he just found out his dog died

Probably would have a RBF (resting bitch face) on a romantic weekend with Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Alba

Wouldn’t pay to get him off the team but would take a 7th in 2030 for him

I got no problem keeping Dvorak as 4th line center. He's overpaid but he's good defensively and in faceoffs. Sign of a deep team with Dvorak 4th line center.

For a Colorado fan you sure are quite invested in Habs thread.
We’re spiteful fan bases that don’t like the other.

I do think your current GM is pretty good. You’ll like Newhook. He’s going to blossom and score ~24 goals next year. He’s underrated. Hit a ton of posts this past year. A few more of those are going in most years. He’s fast as hell. Good motor. Not a sissy in the corners.

Dvorak is negative value at his AAV. Might as well keep him until he’s a rental. Then retain 50% at the deadline. He’ll fetch a 2nd then.

LOL

Habs fans swap a 3rd overall pick for an overpaid 4th line C and they think they can flip Dvorak for a 1st?

ahahahha

Carolina not only stole your 3rd overall pick but they also indirectly made you trade a 1st for a 4th line C
