im sure our insults will be tempered by the millions they make as entertainers. and after thier short working lives they can ridicule for me continuing to work for ten year increments to earn the same as each million dollars they have received contracturally. notice i didnt write earned.
yes these people are human beings and they have feelings like everybody else but they joined the rodeo thats show biz and the rest of us paid our money and have our takes.
i try to have measured takes on these guys and the players i have met are pretty typically the talent stereotype. but in the final assessment players with any time have developed pretty thick skins and are fairly cynical about media generally and understand its what pays the majority of thier salarys. they by and large dont give a shit.
All true. Like I said, I'm not trying to be on a high horse or anything. The truth is we are seeing like 10% of what goes on with the team, so many variables are in place that we aren't privy to, all we have is the product on the ice and some soundbites here and there.
And 100% right these guys know exactly what they are signing up for, good and bad.

The just regular people argument doesn’t carry water for me…

They are paid an exhort amount of money and get like 50% of the revenue their “EMPLOYER” brings in. What regular person gets that kind of cut!

Guaranteed contracts even if they “get fired”.

They are doing a job. If the dude laying bricks performs like PLD he gets humiliated by a customer for a piss poor effort, gets fired, and can’t make his mortgage because he didn’t do what he was paid for!

These guys travel and are attended to like the Queen of f***ing England in terms of meals, air travel, medical care, pay, legal, and perks. They are compensated to the point of coddling.

Puck bunnies. Even the married guys!

Their families are treated like the royal family as well by these organizations.

Maybe that’s why these guys could give two shits. Too many Pros in the country club. Management is all ex players as well so there is nobody with any real world experience with a semblance of real world identity .

All fair points.

I'd honestly prefer the players to make that money than the investment bankers and all those other c***s.

My only point in all that really was I don't think most people understand the work it takes as a teenager and young adult to make it in pro sports. We all know that many guys relax a little when they "make it", but the bottom line is that the workload even the laziest player in the NHL has to do to even tread water is more than most people can or want to handle.

Yeah but most people work really hard for 1/10 of the league minimum and they bring you your food, put out fires, work in the ER, pick up your garbage, and build our homes. All of those jobs IMHO have way more of a contribution to society than a professional athlete.

The world really f***ed up when they started treating these guys like superhero’s. Maybe it’s just being over 40 and having a little life experience under my belt.

The best thing personally over the last few years has been figuring out where sports should be in my life priorities. As soon as I stopped letting 20 year old dudes ruin my weekends my life got waaaayyybetter. Hahahahaha. Sports in general, the Kings, and the UFC became much better when I stopped placing it on a pedestal in my life. These dudes are usually very selfish, sheltered, primadonas, that are in no position to be anyone’s role models.

Hockey players are typically way better than the asshats in the NBA and NFL but man they are so disconnected from their teenage years up until they retire it’s kind of gross!

What I have seen from PLD is the prime example of this. He really is a worst case scenario.

Roenick even somehow blamed the fans for the last work stoppage. He is case study #1 for the prototype arrogant, stupid athlete. Hes basically been run outof every civilian world job hes had
I gave him a hug during the game 6, 2012 cup win. I saw him in the halls after the 2nd period and he was balling. He was a pretty nice dude and said he was super happy for the guys in the ice.

I’ve heard nightmare stories about him in Scottsdale when he is shitfaced though. Worst drunk player I have ever encountered is Brian Boyle. Dude gets royally smashed!

Can and Strick just spoke about Dubois.

Haven’t seen this much hate piled up on a Kings player ever.

Was in Tahoe a few years ago a week after the annual celeb tournament. Asked various dealers and pit bosses about how the celebs were to deal with and to a person they said the biggest dick was JR.

The best......Barkley by far.

Good. I want it all piled on. Its make or break and REALLY see what type of player he is. He’s going to pout like a baby or wake the f*** up and be the guy.

Funny how they describe him as inconsistent and only shows up every fourth game or whatever. At this point I'd take that over whatever the hell this is. He's the most consistent guy to ever wear a Kings jersey, every single game he's a non-factor. The dude hasn't broken a sweat all season.

God every aspect about him enrages me. The trade, the contract, the lip service... in addition to everything he does and doesn't do on the ice. I despise him being on my favorite team. It's probably not fair but I can't help but feel that way.

Would you guys take Gallagher for Dubois?

This would be the ultimate roll of the dice trade for the Habs. He either snaps out of it and Habs win big time OR sets back the Habs for YEARS with a circus around him.

A GM who does this has to have titanium balls...

What say you?

The Kings may not get another cup before we are all pushing daisies. All things averaged out - a team should get a cup every 32 years. But look at Toronto.. 48 years and counting. Point taken re the Disney Ducks: they are doing a proper rebuild - in full tank mode this season - and have stockpiled a lot of talent. Most importantly, they dont have the heavy ballast of cup heroes holding back their rebuild.
Actually, 57 years now for the Laffs (not since 1967 when there were only 6 teams in the league).......but who's counting :)

I would like more money go to the players, however in the form of performance bonuses (team and personal).

Kip Brennan was an absolute dude he used to sign me into the chairmen’s room back in the day. I remember he introduced me to kopitar Simmonds Doughty and Quick when he was doing alumni work.
Love Brennan - he moved back to Canada and had a baby. He was part of that Russia fight with Mirasty, Yablonski that was all over the news. It was basically three players vs. a bunch of angry jealous Russians leaving a wedding. Mirasty and Yablonski were knocking guys out left and right.

Only save 2 mill and Gallgher is already 31 and has not played very well. I probably don't do this. History shows that Dubois will probably have a better year 2.
