If PLD decides to go totally crazy in the playoffs (if the Kings make the playoffs), he can instantly change his reputation around here. But that is a big ask at this point. I'm thinking right now that the Kings are 50/50 to make the playoffs, which is a sad departure from the beginning of the season when they were the favorite to win it all.

Pretty much. I was looking at his numbers earlier today and he did run cold, hot, cold, hot pretty much every year until the last two with Winnipeg and ~20 goals and 40 points was in-line with each of his cold seasons, just as he is pretty much on pace with the Kings. Also, his first season with each club was his lowest, though obviously, it was his rookie season with Columbus.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him go hot or put up a good season despite showing little indication that would happen. He isn't absolutely completely terrible, as he can make quick plays from time to time, and some of his passes have been good (though I don't think his wingers have caught on or can keep up with them), and his production is at least something versus totally airballing, but still amount to bottom 6 production for a top line paid player.

It is kind of like nothing buys bygones quicker than cash/winning sort of thing. If he suddenly starts crashing the net, chucking defenseman over the boards, and scores ~15g 20a the rest of the season and/or becomes a beast in the playoffs, then sure, great, we are warily somewhat happy to have him, but he is going to take a lot of shit until he proves it because right now he looks like a pitiful disaster with work ethic and potential attitude problems which he's been labeled with his entire life and Blake somehow expects it to be okay or no longer the case. :shakehead

I know I’m in the minority, but I can see dubois putting up good numbers pretty soon and I blame deployment - and I think it’s awful to dangle the carrot of fiala during negotiations only to play him with the talent he has been given.

I get the hype with 78, but I disagree with him playing with Dubois as he tends to create a chance (for himself) leading to a shot that kills any sort of playmaking.

91/28 should be a crime to treat to a new signing who just played with Connor..

I can appreciate the puck protection that he has shown (to me at least) as a nice compliment to fiala, giving that extra second of space. His current linemates struggle with the off-beat timing plays. Lots of high danger chances that end up lost in their feet. I have seen many high danger chances, but maybe I’m just delusional. I like his game (for now).

I’ve been advocating for making Dubois 1C for the sole purpose of convincing Blake or whoever becomes GM that he needs to do whatever it takes to get him off the roster this summer. I mean we’re already losing every game and not scoring anyway. Any idea of the Kings being a meritocracy went out the window years ago. So put PLD between Kempe and Fiala and they’ll either miraculously pop off or PLD will kill them like he’s done with every line he’s been on this season and the next GM will have a free conscience to buy him out without wondering “if only he had better linemates”.

To add a bit to my last post - I think if we are trading for a player like dubois to have a “prove it” mindset to move up the lineup, we are making the wrong moves. You trade for the special abilities and provide the proper lineup to succeed, not to try and turn every offensive talent into Kopitar. He has been given the shortest leash into a situation he has no chance to succeed IMO. I don’t want him to be a bruising player every night just because he’s 6’4”. I want him to use that size for protection on offense. We always struggle to implement offensive players effectively, it’s nothing new.

I don’t understand the signing if you are unwilling to move either Kopitar or Danault down a line, which is another situational fault of the roster. Rolling 3 lines only works if you have 2 offensive threats on the ice at any given time.

78 is a rookie and has made some egregious mistakes, only to be put on the top line because he shows effort (which isn’t driving offense IMO, it’s driving shots). Turcotte is a top 5 pick that has been buried (figuratively and literally) in the lineup and we wonder why he can’t produce any points. Give the guys you spent a lot of time and money on a chance to do something with some decent players.

Let’s hope things turn around - I just don’t see how with this low win condition mentality.

I understand why we all sit here and complain about PL, Blake, Luc, McClellan... the criticisms are proven to be justified over and over again.

If you've ever been around pro athletes for a little while they are simply cut from a different cloth in both body and mind. Even the "laziest" player in any major league is a workaholic by most human standards. You need to luck out in the genes/ physical gifts/ whatever department but to develope it into a successful career takes a lot of courage and sacrifice.

I'm not calling any of you out, we all communicate in our own ways and for the money, time, and energy we've all put into this team throughout the years we have the right to say whatever we want. Honestly, you guys make me laugh every day and I appreciate the insight many of you provide.

But I do cringe every time we call these guys petty names, I've been guilty as well, and throw them around like race dogs. They are humans and the vast majority of them are decent people just doing their best.

That said, a major house cleaning is in order. I'm tired of watching this team flounder.

to be fair, if you change your name to "PL", i would probably give you even MORE shit if you're my friend

Oh, really TB? Total Bullshit!

It's all relative, I get it for sure. And again I don't even dislike these guys at all. I was rooting for TM and even Blake not because it just helps the franchise I love but by all accounts Todd is a good and caring dude, and I vouched for Blake's pedigree even in the face of people who reasonably dislike him. But being nice doesn't mean you did the job, and especially as professional hockey players in the past, they'll understand getting ripped for performance. because as you point out, they're just built different anyway, and the level of natural talent PLUS unnatural obsessions and work means you also have to cut thru some heavy critique.

Dubois needs to play on a line with someone who does all the work, and someone who is more skilled.

So like -

Moore / Dubois / Kaliyev

I chirp in spite of the fact that they very well could win another cup before us.
The Kings may not get another cup before we are all pushing daisies. All things averaged out - a team should get a cup every 32 years. But look at Toronto.. 48 years and counting. Point taken re the Disney Ducks: they are doing a proper rebuild - in full tank mode this season - and have stockpiled a lot of talent. Most importantly, they dont have the heavy ballast of cup heroes holding back their rebuild.

The truth of it is I care so much more about my beer league team than this organization right now. Thank god for Mooseknuckles hockey.

im sure our insults will be tempered by the millions they make as entertainers. and after thier short working lives they can ridicule for me continuing to work for ten year increments to earn the same as each million dollars they have received contracturally. notice i didnt write earned.
yes these people are human beings and they have feelings like everybody else but they joined the rodeo thats show biz and the rest of us paid our money and have our takes.
i try to have measured takes on these guys and the players i have met are pretty typically the talent stereotype. but in the final assessment players with any time have developed pretty thick skins and are fairly cynical about media generally and understand its what pays the majority of thier salarys. they by and large dont give a shit.
